“Cut yourself.” The voice said.
“What?!”
…………..
I was convinced at that point that they were batshit crazy and it was probably my instructive thoughts going haywire again. I started to walk down the halls, trying to ignore them but wherever I went, their voices still followed me and it was evident they weren’t leaving unless they wanted to.
“Child, you are mistaken if you think you can walk away from an entity,” Sabrina said and I stopped in my tracks.
“Jeez! You guys should disappear!” I yelled out of frustration and they started cackling.
“We’re already disappeared, child!” The voice said, coughing and laughing with his raspy voice.
“Enough of the jokes and games child. We’re here on a serious mission. To help you navigate the treacherous walls of the unfortunate situation you are about to find yourself in,” Sabrina said and the hairs on my neck stood immediately as though someone was watching me. Who am I kidding? Of course, they were watching me.
“The first step for you to take over as coven queen is for you to know the signs and symbols of every single thing within the four walls of the palace. And you can only do that with our help,” she said and I took a deep breath.
“Then what’s the second step?” I asked.
“A step at a time, child,” the voice said and I rolled my eyes in frustration.
“So, where were we?” The voice asked, melodically.
“Cut yourself, girl,” Sabrina said and I still couldn’t fathom why I had to. I brought out my hand, looking at my nails. I knew I could grow them long and hard within seconds and slice whatever came my way. But the thought of harming myself was a little bit unsettling for me.
“But why?” I asked.
“Enough with the questions. You will see when you do it,” she snapped and I drew out my long, sharp fingers. I placed my cold nails on my skin and started sliding it down slowly till I saw a cut. “Ouch,” I muttered under my breath
“Good,” she said in her raspy voice.
“Now what?” I asked and I felt the breeze brush my face again.
“Walk to that salt sculpture,” she said and I groaned inwardly at how many more steps I had to take backward just to get to that sculpture.
I started walking straight to the sculpture and in my head, I was thinking. What am I supposed to do with these voices? They were already stressing me out.
“Now, stretch out your hands and get a swab of the salt on your hands,” she said and I stretched out my shaky hands and then touched the sculpture. It had a powdery textured skin and the moment I took out a swab, the dent I had left on it immediately closed up.
“Wow. I’ve never seen it do that,” I said, shocked.
“That’s because you have never intentionally taken a swab out of it with a wound on your body. Now, take that salt on your finger and apply it to that wound,” she said and I hesitated for a while.
“Isn’t that supposed to sting?” I asked and I already knew my questions were starting to annoy them so I didn’t expect a reply. I immediately touched the hand of salt on my wound and it stung a little but then started to close up really fast. I was so shocked to even speak. The only potion I had seen that healed fast was the healing potion made of bay leaves and some incantations just like my mother had taught me. But that potion took hours to days to heal depending on the intensity of the injury.
This one was very fast and instant. I had just hit a gold mine. All they had said and were saying to me was right! How could this discovery be locked in the palace while the people outside were dying of infections due to untreated wounds?
“See?” Sabrina said cackling.
“Wow. I’m short of words,” I said, my mouth still agape.
“The girl can finally believe us now,” the man said and I smiled.
“And the salt can never be wasted so that’s endless healing for millions of people for ages and ages. You noticed when you swabbed over it, the dent immediately cleared up? That’s what it would keep doing as long as you have an injury or an ailment. That, my child, is the first thing you must use to build a very strong empire for yourself,” she explained and I smiled in amusement. It would make my kingdom the most powerful that ever lived. It would give us an edge against the werewolves, we would have something they didn’t have but desired. They may even succumb to our bidding once they see how powerful we have become.
“But you can’t tell this to anyone yet. Not even a soul,” Sabrina continued and I nodded.
“I won’t. But in the meantime what do I do? I still have my sister on the run with the women’s kids and probably even more people. She has kidnapped them and ran away to the human world. I have to go there and end her,” I said with determination in my tone.
“Your sister, Amanda Blackwood. She is the strongest witch to live since the ancient princess of Aretuza. It’s a shame that she channeled all that power to causing havoc,” Sabrina said and I could hear her sigh.
“You see my dear, with great power, comes great responsibility. And sometimes, it’s difficult to control what you want to use your power for. Her case is quite similar,” the man said and I bowed my head slightly as though I was regretting something.
“She won’t be easy to end. But it is possible and that’s why we are here to help you. Because, asides from the werewolves, she’s your next biggest threat and you need to get her off your radar.”
“How?”
