Episode 10

Within split seconds, I felt a huge gush of wind over me and the voices had stopped talking. They had finally disappeared. “Thank goodness,” I muttered under my breath. My feet were already hurting from all that standing and my brain was also hurting from all that education. I was still in fact dazed from all the revelations I had gotten from that encounter. I started to walk down the hallway, one step at a time to get to my room so I could at least sit down. I got to my room, took a deep breath then went ahead to open the door handle and it opened. “They’re actually gone,” I said to myself looking around. I walked into my room and shut the door behind me. My room was a very massive one and was very secluded. It was the most secret room in the entire palace. It was like that because I didn’t like anyone in my business or bothering me. It also gave me time to think and harness my powers and that was how I practiced as a child. My room had a huge tower of books I liked to call my den of knowledge. It was so many feet tall and all rows were filled with books. I had read almost all the books in that library. From romance stories to actual non-fiction to history. I used my magic to find the particular book that had the history of the sculptures and paintings on the wall of my palace. The book floated all the way from where it was and into my hands. I opened that book again, scanning through its content while shaking my head in disappointment. “I wonder how many more books are just like you. Filled with lies and deceit,” I muttered under my breath. I thought of confiscating the book and making it disappear but I was too fond of books, I couldn’t. I always believed books are precious, no matter what was written inside them. So I made the book float back to the shelf where it belonged. I let out a loud sigh and sank into my bed. Memories of what had happened earlier flashed through my head. “A witch mate?” I muttered under my breath, shuddering at the mere thought of it. “Library,” I said and my library became alive. It had the power to speak to me based on the knowledge of books that were kept there. “Is it possible for a witch to change the course of her destiny? To change her mate?” I asked the library and it shook for a moment before it finally found the right book. That book was green in color and floated out of the shelf where it was kept then landed in my hands. “Skip to the page library,” I said and the book opened immediately to the page where it was written and it read. “Never has it been that a witch changed her course of destiny. A witch can only be destined to mate with one. Unless her mate dies, nothing changes,” I read out loud. “s**t,” I groaned inwardly. Even if it meant killing all the werewolves I knew, I would do it just to get rid of my supposed mate. But was that even possible? There were so many other packs asides from the ones I was already used to. So many other packs in different parts of the world that I didn’t know about. “I have to focus on the first things first,” I said to myself then made the book float back to where it belonged on the shelf. “Thank you, library,” I said and the library went stiff again, lifeless like it had never come to life. I pondered for a while on how I was going to navigate myself through the world of humans. Humans didn’t hesitate to experiment on strange things when they pleased. It was why witches never got along with humans. They wanted to know everything and see if they could thwart it for their own pleasure. I scoffed at the thought of it. Those humans didn’t know that some things were just meant to be and more importantly, meant to be left alone. My mind darted to the last time I visited the human world. I failed to disguise myself as a human because I was stubborn. My mother had warned me to keep a low profile not to attract the attention of humans. Eventually, those humans caught me and put me in a white transparent cage. There was a doctor. A fine one, but had a sour character. They all seemed to be afraid of me but I was powerless inside that cage. I called severally to my mother for help but it took her weeks to finally come to my aid. “You have the wrong witch!” She thundered the minute she appeared in the lab. Of course, those humans started calling on security for help. My mother made sure to scatter everything they worked for and burned them all to ashes. She finally released me from my cage and I was extremely tired. They barely fed me food that I wanted to be fed. And my powers kept at bay for so long drained me. “What took you so long mother?” I remembered asking her and she slapped me across the face, grabbed my hand violently, and disappeared with me. We got back to the palace and she dragged me into my room. “What did I tell you about visiting that place without a disguise huh?” She asked and she was really angry. “I’m sorry ma, it won’t happen again!” I pleaded while she mercilessly threw me inside my room and I knew what was coming next. “I had to leave you there for weeks so you would experience a bit of what they would do to you once they found out who you are. Why do I have children who don’t listen?!” She said, frustration evident in her voice. She immediately stormed out of my room and locked the door with a spell I couldn’t penetrate. “Oh no, not again,” I muttered to myself, weakly.
