Leonardo choked. The words hit him square in the chest, cutting off his airway instantly. A violent cough tore out of his throat as he braced himself against the wooden handrail at the base of the stairs, his knuckles whitening around the polished wood while he fought to steady himself. For several long seconds, the only sound in the massive entryway was the rough drag of his breathing. When he finally forced himself upright, he glared at Camilla. His eyes were bloodshot, red veins cutting through the whites as his fingers slowly loosened from the railing. “Sorry,” Leonardo snapped, his voice rough from the coughing fit. “What the f**k did you just say?” Camilla did not move an inch.
