CHAPTER 31 — The Room
The heavy oak door swung open with a slow, ominous creak, and the atmosphere in the room instantly turned to ice. Kael stepped across the threshold, his massive frame instantly consuming the space. The two maids, Martha and Lily, who had been standing around Aurora to brush out her silver-blonde hair, quickly disappeared through the exit. They kept their heads bowed low, scurrying out like shadows before the door slammed shut behind them. They knew very well what was going to happen, and they knew better than to linger when the Alpha's mood was dark.
There was no set routine for when he came to her. There wasn't a specific time of day, nor was there a set day of the week he chose to visit her; he always popped in completely randomly, driven entirely by the erratic shifting of his internal tides. Tonight, the air around him crackled with a distinct, sharp frustration. Something had clearly not gone well with his plans—the royal vanguards were choking his northern supply lines tighter each day, and the pressure was bleeding into his temper.
But Kael didn't call her down to the subterranean playroom anymore. It wasn't necessary. Aurora was no longer openly disobedient in the way she had been in the beginning, and the spacious bedroom he had provided her with held all the necessary toys embedded directly into the stone walls as well. He had prepared this private chamber specifically for her, tailoring its luxury to hide a far more sadistic utility.
Calling her to the cold dungeons simply wasn't enough for his hunger anymore. Over the last three years, her intoxicating scent—a unique mix of pale skin, silver-wolf heritage, and raw, defiant fire—had completely soaked through the very furniture and wood of the room. He had become entirely addicted to it. Everything in this room smelled deeply, suffocatingly like her, and he found himself drawn to this space even when he had no intention of striking her, just to breathe in the essence of the woman he could not break.
Aurora knew very well what was going to happen the moment she saw the rigid line of his jaw. She didn't blink, nor did she wait for a spoken order from his mouth. Moving with a calm, almost mechanical precision, she gracefully untied the simple gray linen dress she wore, letting the fabric pool around her ankles, exposing the intricate, rain-like landscape of silver scars covering her pale skin. Naked and completely unbothered by the cold draft, she stepped forward and positioned herself exactly in the middle of the room.
Kael watched her, his amber eyes darkening to a feral hue. With a smooth, practiced pull of a thick velvet rope hanging near the doorframe, he released a hidden mechanical cover in the ceiling. Instantly, the dark wooden panel slid back, and the familiar, hollow rattle of heavy iron chains dropped down from the ceiling beam, stopping precisely above her head. It was a little architectural addition he had custom-built into the structural layout of the bedroom—a twisted compromise so she could live comfortably in the room during the day, while ensuring he still had every single tool he needed to execute his possessive malice at a moment's notice.
But the overhead restraints weren't all anymore. As she raised her scarred wrists to meet the iron cuffs, Kael stepped forward, kicking a hidden latch near the floorboards. Two extra sets of heavy chains slid out from the granite base, specifically designed to anchor her legs and pull her thighs wide apart. It was a dark, paradoxical evolution of her captivity. Her freedom during her regular life in this household had grown significantly over the years, allowing her a soft bed and a window with a view—and yet, the brutal weight of her restraints during his "playing" had increased tenfold. The more she dominated his mind with her silence, the more physical iron he required to convince himself he was still the master of her fate.
Once he had firmly secured Aurora in place, ensuring the iron cuffs locked tightly against her skin, Kael turned on his heel. He moved toward another hidden compartment embedded seamlessly into the stone wall, pressing a brass latch that caused a panel to pop open, offering all the tools of his twisted trade. Resting inside was his newly braided whip—a lethal masterpiece of craftsmanship featuring tiny metal spines embedded directly into its leather tip, specifically designed to cause maximum pain and tear flesh with every stroke. If that whip were to hit anyone else in the manor, they would scream in absolute agony; for Aurora, however, this brand of cruelty had become almost a daily routine.
Her only true reprieves came when political necessity dragged Kael away from the estate. During his long trips to the Capital to answer the crown’s summons, Aurora finally had consecutive days to fully heal, her body quietly knitting itself back together in the quiet sanctuary of her room. But the peace was always temporary. The moment he returned, the torment resumed with a frantic, renewed vigor; these plays happened even two times a day, recurring relentlessly until his foul mood fully relaxed from the tense, interrogative meetings with the King. Sometimes, as she hung suspended in the quiet room, Aurora wondered what the King was truly like, and whether he had any idea that his regular talks with Kael directly caused her so much visceral pain.
Kael’s eyes lingered on the spiked weapon, but he ultimately left the whip hanging for later. Instead, his fingers brushed past the leather straps and selected a thick, heavy gag to cover Aurora's mouth. He moved deliberately slow, enjoying every single moment he had with her. There was no need to rush; the night was young, and he had hours to play with her before the sun dared to rise over the northern peaks.
Stepping back into her immediate space, he leaned in and deeply, possessively kissed her, forcing his tongue past her lips to taste her one last time before placing the gag gently but firmly into her mouth, securing the leather straps tightly behind her silver-blonde hair. Once it was secured in place, he lifted her chin with his thumb, forcing her to look straight into his eyes.
The fire was still there.
Her body didn't react to him, her breathing remained perfectly steady, and her mind was clearly at an unbothered ease—but those silver eyes were absolutely full of unyielding fire. He saw it every single time he looked straight at her, and it was specifically that untamable fire that drove him completely insane.
Frustrated by her internal peace, Kael grabbed her roughly by the thick leather collar she had worn for the past two years—a custom-made piece he had designed specifically for her throat. He didn't wait for an invitation, nor did he look for a weapon. Leaning down, he bit her neck fiercely. He didn't do it to officially mark her as a mate, nor did he do it just to inflict basic pain, but simply to leave a physical brand—as he always did—to show her that she belonged to him.
Over the years, Kael had abandoned the silver dagger to create his marks. Instead, he preferred the raw, primal nature of his own teeth, using his sharp Alpha canines to aggressively mark her entire body. He moved down her frame with animalistic hunger, sinking his teeth into her shoulders, her hips, her thighs, and her buttcheeks, tearing into her skin everywhere until he finally had enough. Those ragged bite marks bled profusely, oozing dark crimson lines down her pale skin, drawing maybe even more blood than when he used to cut her with a sharp knife.
Despite her absolute mental restraint, Aurora let out a slight, involuntary moan from the sheer intensity of the physical sensations whenever his teeth sank into the sensitive skin close to her core. Kael’s ears twitched at the sound, a dark, satisfied smirk spreading across his face. Over the years of her stoic silence, Kael had learned a vital rule of the game: if he wanted to hear at least a small sound from her, he couldn't leave her mouth free. When her lips were unhindered, her teeth would clamp together, holding her voice far too tight, completely locking her reactions away behind a wall of pure pride. But the gag, by restraining her jaw and forcing her mouth open, always betrayed her control—allowing those tiny, muffled sounds to escape her throat, which instantly increased his excitement to a fever pitch.
