As soon as I left Killian’s office, my heart started beating fast.
Really fast.
I didn’t even know if it was fear or anger or just nerves. Maybe all three.
I didn’t want to piss him off. But I also didn’t want to keep folding for him. I needed to start standing my ground. And honestly, I wasn’t going to keep having this argument with myself anymore.
On my way to my room, I kept thinking about everything I just said to him. Emily was waiting for me—I had so much to tell her. She was probably already pacing.
Then I heard someone call my name.
But it wasn’t “Lilith.”
It was “Liz.”
I turned quickly.
It was Nolan.
He walked up to me with that same calm look on his face. “How are you doing?” he asked.
“I’m fine,” I said with a small smile.
