Nolan’s Pov The music was loud. The champagne was decent. The business talk? Boring, as usual. I nodded politely at the men around me. They were going on and on about contracts, mergers, expansion. I’d heard this same speech at a dozen parties. Then my eyes drifted around and I saw Lilith in the corner. Alone. She was drinking. She downed one glass, then another. Her hand moved too quickly. Her head tilted back too far. She wasn’t sipping. She was trying to forget. I stopped listening to the conversation.
