42 “Hey, there. You heading home?” The voice belongs to the shadows. I startle. “Who’s that?” It’s 9:30. Well past sundown. The meeting ended thirty minutes ago. I shouldn’t have stayed so long afterward, but I wanted to help put away the chairs, and April had been eager to get home and kiss the girls before they fell asleep, so I told her I didn’t need her to stick around and walk out with me.
