Acknowledgements In 2007, when I was killing myself with bulimia, my best friend, Sarah, told me I was the food equivalent of a junkie. “You’re an addict,” she said. “You need help.” Shortly thereafter, my boyfriend, Roger, took me with him to an AA meeting because even though I’m not now, nor have I ever been, an alcoholic, he knew I needed a spiritual solution to stop my cycle of self-destruction. I’ve long since ceased attending AA meetings, but I am in recovery today. As I progressed from pain to purpose, I discovered a number of spiritual and self-help practices, one of which was yoga.
