Edwina
Since I can’t get any help from Edward, I think it was stupid for me to come here. I need to look for other options, but first, I need to leave this place.
It's enough that they see me as a traitor and Edward decides to use me as a servant for his insecure fiancé who only wants to see me dead, so I will not stand here and watch him get married to Rebeca. That’s just enough bulls*t happening all at once.
The moon eclipse ceremony is coming up and there will be a lot of distraction. That will be a perfect time for me to escape this hellhole.
I just have to be patient enough till I find the right time to leave this place.
If it were just Edward and I in the middle of this fracas, I wouldn’t be too bothered for my safety but now that a jealous woman wants to take my life too, I have to leave my life for my mother. I don’t know what she’s going through and I need to find help one way or the other.
The preparation for the Moon eclipse ceremony has started and people are going in and out of the palace as they please. I would go with them, but all eyes are on me at the moment. It’s a good thing that I brought nothing here so I’ll leave with nothing except this filthy servant's uniform on me.
It’s a new day today, another day to serve Rebeca. The servant's quarters are now open and everyone is going to have a different place of assignment! I freshen up as quickly as I can, then clean out my wound by changing its bandages.
It isn’t healing as fast as I want it to, and I wonder why. It’s probably because I haven’t had much rest.
When I was done, I went out with the other maids and joined them in Rebecca's chamber.
When I entered, I saw one of the maids attending to her wounds. As soon as Rebecca saw me, she became restless.
“you!” She said, looking at me.
“Good morning my lady,” I bowed to her.
She got up from bed and went to her wardrobe to pack some clothes that looked neat and ironed. She threw them to the floor and began stepping on them and using her feet to rumple them on the ground to make sure they got dirty and rough.
While she did all this, I was more focused on her neck and wondering how bad the scar would be when she finally took it off. I can’t believe that she was about to do that to me…
“Come and pick these clothes up, Edwina, they are very dirty and they need to be washed and ironed out as you can see. those clothes are delicate so they need to be hand washed.” She says
“My lady, those clothes are already neat, I washed and ironed them personally.” Sara, one of her very close maids, complained.
“Shut up Sara! Well, it’s dirty now and I need her to wash them!” I came forward to her and picked up the clothes, then slowly walked out of her chambers. I was walking to the laundry room when Benita found me.
“Heart, are you going, Princess Edwina?” She asks.
I don’t know why she keeps calling me princess. It feels like she is ridiculing me even though she means no harm.
“Please Benita, don’t call me a princess anymore. As you can see, I’m no longer a princess.” I say.
“Well, you’re still a princess to me, no matter what clothes or uniform you wear and where you are. I know this is temporary.” She said with a bright smile on her face.
I sighed, as I had no strength left in me to argue with her.
“Are you doing laundry?” She asked me. Shock.
“Oh yes, they belong to Rebeca…” I said.
“Wow! Have you ever done laundry in your life?”
Well, she is right! I have never even packed dirty clothes to wash them before, but these few years in captivity have taught me a lot. It has been Mother and I all alone, doing everything by ourselves. We had no access to servants, apart from the guards who kept a watch on us to make sure we never escaped.
We did everything by ourselves, so washing isn’t new to me.
“Don’t worry, I’m not as weak as you think, I can do a little laundry” I tell her
“Well princess, this isn’t a little laundry. Let’s go to the laundry room and I’ll show you how it’s done.” She took my hand and we both went there
She used methods I had never seen before to get dirty off the white clothes like baking soda and lemon, she even showed me a method with rice paste. I had no idea that food could get dirt off clothes.
We spread the clothes out in the sun and I didn’t want to go back to the toxic atmosphere where Rebecca was. I had no problem with her sending me on errands, just as long as I didn’t have to see her face while doing it.
I sat out in the open garden and felt sleepy. The sun was mildly bright and the breeze was so cool. It was just the perfect weather.
Soon I found myself lying down on the freshly crossed grass. I closed my eyes and went deep in thought. I miss my father so much and I need to see my mother. She is the only parent I have left and every minute I spend in this place is….
No! I don’t want to think about it! I know she’s alive, and I will find a way to get her out of there soon! I must.
While in the garden, I didn’t know when I would fall into a deep sleep.
In my sleep, I was daydreaming about my mother and father. I was in a beautiful garden filled with lilies and roses. I was dressed as a princess that I am and my skin and her were so smooth.
I saw my father walking towards me and I smiled with a joyful heart and then my mother came along with him.
There was no sadness in my heart because I had all that I needed right there until a hearty man came on a horse and ordered them to get on it. They got up and obeyed him, but I wouldn’t allow them.
“Where are you taking my parents to?” I yelled.
“Mom! Dad! You don’t have to go with him, stay here with me!” I cried but didn’t listen to me when they got on the horse. When I saw this, my heart was broken and I was ready to get on the horse too.
I tried to jump on the horse, but the horse's skin became very slippery for some reason, so I kept slipping off.
The horse had begun moving and when I saw
Since it was impossible for me to get on the horse, I grabbed my mother's dress and tried to pull her off the horse.
The hefty man yanked my hands off, and I fell to the ground while hearing the heavy hoofs of the horse hitting against the bare ground when it was leaving.
I cried out loud, calling out to my mother and father… I could still hear the hoof of the horse leaving but the sound felt like it was closer to me. I cried out in pain and opened my eyes immediately to see that it was all a dream.
I was still on the same grass where I lay, I could hear the sound of a horse's hooves cooling me closer to me and that was when I saw Edward on his horse…
The horse stopped and he got down from it…
I tried to get up as quickly as I could when he came closer to me.
“Why are you here?” He asked. “Why are you lying on the grass princess?” He mocked.
“Let me guess, the beds at the servant's quarters aren't to your liking? You haven’t been sleeping well?”
I said nothing to him while he kept ranting.
“You won’t talk?” he said.
“Nothing. I was doing laundry and I thought about resting while the clothes dyed,” I say
“Why are you washin…” he stopped. I’m guessing he is holding himself back from showing some sort of concern.
“Well, you can’t be here! I like to come here when I want to clear my head and I do not want a traitor like you taunting the serenity of this place for me. So please leave!” He said with so much hate for me in his eyes.
