Mother found it difficult to utter a word for the sight in front of her was too gruesome! No one deserves to go that way especially not my father, a king. I sat on the floor waiting anxiously and praying that Edward would come with full force. I prayed that Damien should not kill Edward too for I do not know what I’d do with myself if that happened. A few hours later, three chariots were seen riding from afar, coming toward us… My heart raced in fear of what might happen. Damien was excited to see this. He laughed hysterically and told his men to hide and stay out of obvious sight which they did. When I saw three chariots riding towards us, my heart sank because I knew that three chariots were not enough to defeat these men. We needed an army! I was afraid because I knew that he would kill everyone in the carriage and I didn’t know he f Edward was a match for him. The carriages got closer to where ours stopped and one of the men went to the middle carriage to open the door for the king to come out and to my surprise, I saw the lag of a woman step out! It was the king's mother instead. Why the hell did she come? When Damien saw this, he was livid! “Who asked her to come!?” He yelled. The queen mother looked up to see Damien and there was an intense shock on her face, She looked all around and saw my mother and I seared on the floor while flies perched on My father's lifeless body. “Oh goodness!” She exclaimed “I didn’t ask you to come, woman! What I needed was your son and boy you!” I gritted my teeth together and walked towards her while she took a few steps back… As he did, the guards who came with her braced up for attack. Damien laughed mockingly and then snapped his finger. His men came out immediately and attacked all the guards most viciously. The queen was petrified. “Please Damien! “ she begged like she had known him before. “Since you have chosen to come in place of your son, I will let you take this one for him, Mirabel….” He said calling her by her first name. It seems like they know each other personally and it seems like whatever he has with her is also personal. He went ahead to dig his sharp claws into her throat. She stood still while blood gushed out of her esophagus and she struggled to breathe, making a wheezing sound and gasping for oxygen. She lost her balance and then fell to the ground. I watched the king's mother die there and there and I couldn’t do anything about it. At this point, I had seen enough horror for a lifetime. Tears refused to fall out of my eyes and the pain within me got more intense. My mother kept wailing but I had no emotions left in me to express because I had already made up my mind to kill Damien at every opportunity I got. The messenger he has sent to get Edward here was also killed for not carrying out the order as he wanted. When Damien was done, he ordered his own to pick us up and put us in a carriage as we rode back to Avalor where he had already taken a lot of our people captive and killed the ones that defied him. My kingdom wasn’t looking like mine anymore. Instead of the cheering that I would normally hear when we arrived back at the kingdom, all I could hear were cries and wailing! People were crying and houses were burning. We rode to the palace but I could hardly recognize my own home. Damien commanded his men to lock my mother Wan in a room till he needed us. Damien took over everything and ruled as he pleased while he kept Mother and In as his prisoners. He said the only reason he hadn’t killed us was to have leverage on Edeard. He believed that he could use me as leverage to get what he wanted from King Edward before finally killing Jim. I waited and waited, for three years we waited but no one came to our rescue. I got a bit mad wondering why Edward wouldn’t even try to come find me especially after his mother was killed. Each day I wonder if he even felt anything for me. I think about what could be going on with him and if he had just moved on. The security was always very tight. Mother and I had tried to escape severally but our plans were always dead on arrival. There was no room for us to even have a proper plan but Mother had plans of her own and she wouldn’t tell me. She has been getting close to one of the guards in particular and when the time was right she initiated her plans. She told me one evening while I was sleeping, to arise. “It is time to leave!” She papped me so hard that I was scared. “What’s wrong Mother!”I asked in shock. “Get up Edwina! You have to leave!” Leave for where mother? What is going on?” “ You have to leave this place immediately! Go to Galentia. Go and get help from King Edward…” “What? How are we sure that King Edward would help us? We have been here for three years but we heard nothing from him!” I said “Oh, Edwina, King Edward will help you! You’re his betrothed, it is better to go to him than remain here with Damien. This is the year King Edward is to come and claim you as his wife. You need to get to him before he gets here without warning. Damien has waited patiently for this moment, he can’t go into Galentia himself because he knows that the kingdom is too strong and he stands no chance against them. If he comes here without enough enforcement, Damien will kill him. Now be ready to leave for I will step out with the guard and that is your cue to leave. Don’t look back…run as fast as your legs can carry you, till you get to the gates of Galentia!” “What about you?” I heard everything she said but I missed the part where she said she’d come to me. “Stop being a child Edwina! I will make a way for you and you can come back for me!” She got up and signaled for me to get up. “Mother? What are you going to do? What will the guard do to you?” I was confused. “I will give him the only thing I have at the moment, my body!” She smiled “Mother, please don’t do that, we can find a better way to work it out” I begged. “This is no time for tears Edwina, I command you as your queen to leave now!” She said, her tone more form than before, her eyes were teary but she stood firm and made sure no tears “I got up and wiped my teary eyes, got up too and hugged me tightly then she pushed me off immediately to avoid getting too emotional. “Come back for what is yours okay? Come back for our kingdoms, you father, and me!” “I’ll come back Mother, I’ll come back as soon as I can…” I wiped the tears that were pouring out uncontrollably She went out of the room and I watched her leave taking the hands of one of the guards who kept watching us and they went away. I thought tears were done from my eyes but when I say this ... it shattered my broken heart further. My mother was being violated just for me to escape. What did we even do to deserve all these? I picked myself up and it’s better than sitting here to cry. I left the room and found my way to the secret house in the palace that these guards or Damien himself didn’t know about, then I succeeded in leaving the premises of the palace through the tunnel that led to a small kingdom behind our kingdom. It’s done, I was out of the palace! I couldn’t believe it! I hadn’t seen beyond the walls of the palace for three years. How did I even manage to stay sane? My sanity is right. My sanity is debatable! In the small village, I managed to disguise myself like a common villager and found a knife which I stole in an open market for defense. I also managed to steal some food which I ate to keep me strong for the journey. I could see that some of Damien’s men were in this village, merrying and going about their different activities, but I believed I had the right disguise and no one would recognize me.
