Lilly sat reading in the window seat in her room at Hillguard Manor, her gaze fixed on the snow-covered grounds outside. The winter landscape was serene, a blanket of white covering every surface, but inside, she felt anything but calm. The argument with Ian still weighed on her, a storm of emotions swirling in her chest. How could he not tell her? The possibility of finding her father had been a secret she never expected to keep from him, yet he had kept it from her. She was glad Chase had told her though.
A soft knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. Before she could respond, Darius poked his head in, his dark eyes filled with concern. "Lilly? Can I come in?"
She nodded, and Darius stepped inside, followed closely by Chester, who was carrying a bundle of clothes and a pair of ice skates slung over his shoulder.
"We're kidnapping you," Chester announced with a grin, dropping the clothes on her bed. "No arguments. Get dressed. We're going ice skating."
Lilly blinked, caught off guard by the sudden change in plans. "Ice skating?"
Darius stepped forward, his expression softening. "You've been cooped up in here long enough. Chester and I thought it might do you some good to get outside and clear your head a little."
She hesitated, her thoughts still tangled in the mess of her argument with Ian. "I don't know... I'm not really in the mood."
Chester plopped down beside her, his grin unwavering. "That's exactly why you need to come. Fresh air, frozen water, and two very good-looking guys who happen to be excellent skaters. What more could you ask for?"
Lilly couldn't help but smile at his enthusiasm. It had been a while since she'd seen Chester, and the prospect of spending time with him and Darius was tempting. Maybe they were right—maybe a change of scenery was what she needed.
"Alright," she conceded, standing up. "But only because I'm curious to see if you two are as good as you say."
Chester jumped up, pumping his fist in the air. "Yes! You won't regret it, I promise."
Darius handed her the clothes, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "We'll be waiting downstairs."

The frozen pond behind the manor was a hidden gem, tucked away in a small grove of trees that sheltered it from the wind. As Lilly stepped onto the ice, the chill of the air bit at her cheeks, turning them rosy. The pond was smooth, a perfect sheet of ice glistening under the late afternoon sun.
Chester and Darius were already on the ice, effortlessly gliding across its surface. Chester moved with the easy grace of someone who had done this countless times before, while Darius's movements were precise and fluid, a testament to his centuries of practice.
"Come on, Lilly!" Chester called out, spinning in a circle before coming to a stop in front of her. "It's easier than it looks. Just keep your balance and let yourself glide."
Lilly took a deep breath, pushing off with her skates. The ice felt foreign beneath her feet, and for a moment, she wobbled, her arms flailing slightly. But then, she found her balance, the sensation of gliding across the ice strange yet exhilarating.
"There you go!" Darius encouraged, skating up beside her. "You're a natural."
She laughed, a sound that surprised her with how light it felt. "I haven't done this since I was a kid. I thought I'd be a lot worse."
Chester skated backward in front of her, a mischievous grin on his face. "See? Told you this was a good idea. Now, let's see if you can keep up!"
With that, he shot off across the ice, his speed impressive as he carved a path through the frozen surface. Darius shook his head, a chuckle escaping him. "He's showing off. Don't let him intimidate you."
Lilly smiled, her heart lifting for the first time in days. She pushed off harder, her movements growing more confident as she chased after Chester. The cold wind whipped past her face, but she didn't care—she felt free, the weight of her worries lifting with every glide across the ice.
Darius caught up to her easily, his presence reassuring beside her. "How are you feeling?"
"Better," she admitted, glancing at him. "Thanks for bringing me out here. I needed this more than I realized."
He nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I know things with Ian are... complicated right now. But give it time. He cares about you, Lilly. He just didn't want to hurt you."
"I know," she said softly, her gaze dropping to the ice. "It's just... hard. I don't know what to think about any of it."
Darius didn't push, instead letting the silence between them settle comfortably. After a while, Chester rejoined them, his cheeks flushed from the cold and the exertion.
"Alright, you two," he said, slightly out of breath. "What do you say we race?"
Lilly raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eye. "A race? Are you sure you're ready to lose?"
Chester laughed, his competitive spirit flaring up. "We'll see about that. Darius, you in?"
Darius nodded, a rare smile breaking across his face. "Why not?"
They lined up at one end of the pond, the three of them poised to take off. Lilly felt a surge of excitement, the adrenaline rushing through her veins as she focused on the other side of the pond.
"On your mark," Chester called out, "get set... go!"
They took off, the ice crackling beneath their skates as they raced across the pond. Lilly felt the wind in her hair, her worries melting away as she focused on the finish line. Chester was fast, but she was determined, pushing herself harder than she thought possible.
In the end, it was close, but Chester crossed the line first, pumping his fists in victory. Lilly came in a close second, her laughter ringing out as she skidded to a stop.
"You win this time," she panted, her breath fogging in the cold air. "But next time, I'm taking you down."
Chester grinned, clearly pleased with himself. "We'll see about that. But hey, you did great. I'm impressed."
Darius skated over, his expression a mix of amusement and approval. "You almost had him, Lilly. That was impressive."
As they stood there, catching their breath, Lilly realized how much better she felt. The tension that had been knotting her chest had eased, replaced by the warmth of friendship and the simple joy of being at the moment.
"Thank you, both of you," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. "I needed this more than I can say."
Darius placed a hand on her shoulder, his touch gentle. "Anytime, Lilly. You're not alone. We're here for you, no matter what."
Chester nodded in agreement, his usual lightheartedness tempered by sincerity. "Yeah, we've got your back. Always."
As they made their way back to the manor, the sky beginning to darken as evening set in, Lilly felt a sense of peace she hadn't experienced in days. There were still things to sort out with Ian, but for now, she was content. With friends like Darius and Chester, she knew she could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
