8: Date Night

After two months of surviving in the wild, the return to normalcy felt surreal. The Hillguard Manor was more like a fortress than ever, its grand stone walls a comforting contrast to the dense, treacherous woods where Lilly, her sister Rose, and Chester had been held captive. Every corner of the manor seemed to breathe life back into them, and the warmth of the familiar brought a sense of relief that no words could describe. Lilly had even gone to visit Catherine to paint and visit Chester.

The kidnapping had left its mark on all of them. Lilly, the scar from the hybrid and her quiet determination, carried herself differently now—stronger, yet more guarded. Her shy demeanor is gone. Chester, who had always been the easy-going joker, now had a seriousness about him that rarely wavered. Rose, had begun training with Lilly in the workout room, when she should be playing. The little girl was cautious and her eyes were always watching. The darkness they had faced in the forest was something they would carry forever, but they were determined not to let it define them.

It was Ian who first suggested the double date. He had seen the strain Lilly carried and knew she needed something light, something that would remind her of what life was like before the forest. Darius, always the voice of reason, agreed immediately. Chester, never one to turn down an invitation to see Lilly, was on board as well. their friendship was now unbreakable.

That evening, they gathered at The Hidden Haven, an intimate restaurant nestled in the heart of their small downtown. The setting was perfect—dim lighting, soft music, and the hum of quiet conversation creating a cocoon of normalcy.

Lilly walked in with Ian by her side, her hand comfortably nestled in his. Darius and Chester were already there, seated at a cozy corner table. Darius, ever the sophisticated vampire, looked immaculate in his black button-down shirt, the fabric catching the light as he turned to greet them. Chester was in his casual attire, donning a jacket over his black shirt and slacks.

"Hey, you two!" Chester called out, his grin wide and genuine. There was a brightness in his eyes that Lilly hadn't seen in a while. Maybe the normalcy was helping them all.

"Hey to you too!" Lilly replied, her voice lighter than it had been in days. She felt Ian's hand squeeze hers, and she glanced up at him, grateful for his presence.

They took their seats, and soon enough, the conversation flowed as easily as the wine. They talked about everything and nothing— the beginning of the next semester, friends, and upcoming events. It was as if the forest was a distant memory, a nightmare that didn't dare intrude on this evening of laughter and companionship.

"I have to say," Darius remarked at one point, "it's nice to see you both smiling again. We've missed this. don't get me wrong seeing you two serious is great but we miss the lighter sides"

Lilly nodded, her eyes meeting Darius's. "We missed it too. It's... it's been hard, but being here with you guys helps."

Ian, who had been quietly watching Lilly, spoke up. "You're stronger than you give yourself credit for, Lilly. All of you are. What you went through... it's unimaginable. But you're here, and that's what matters."

Chester raised his glass, his expression serious. "To returning. And to the people who helped us get here."

The others followed suit, the clinking of glasses a soft, comforting sound in the intimate space.

As the evening wore on, the conversation turned to lighter topics. Chester, ever the storyteller, regaled them with tales of his misadventures, his animated expressions and gestures eliciting laughter from the group. Darius, with his dry wit, added his commentary, his sharp observations hitting just the right notes to keep the mood buoyant.

Lilly found herself relaxed with Ian's arm draped around her shoulders and the familiar banter between their friends, she felt the weight on her chest begin to lift. There was still a long way to go, but tonight was a start—a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there were moments of light to be found.

As the night drew to a close, they stepped outside into the cool night air. The stars twinkled above them, and for a moment, they all stood in silence, taking in the peacefulness of the night.

Chester broke the silence with a chuckle. "You know, we should do this more often. Life's too short not to enjoy it."

Darius nodded in agreement, his eyes reflecting the starlight. "Indeed. And we have much to look forward to."

After Lilly and Ian were done eating they walked outside. The restaurant was surrounded by the central park. Lilly smiled as Ian pulled his jacket closer around her. Ian put his arm around Lilly trying to keep the cool wind off her. She smiled not even cold but enjoyed having him close to her.

"Have you gone to a lot of national parks ?" Lilly asked. She wished she could have seen them when they were used by hundreds of humans in the day.

"Yeah, the humans had a lot of national parks. There was one called Yellowstone Park and it went through three states, been through some in Louisiana, Grand Canyon, and Death Valley."

"I bet it was pretty. Ian, do you think it is as bad as everyone said it was?"

"To be honest I don't know my parents would know more since I was born when we were in power not the humans. " Ian said nodding as two vampires jogged past.

"I'm glad though that I was born in this time or I would have never met you or your family."

Ian smiled holding Lilly closer to him.

"Me to." Ian said kissing the top of her head.

"to our future." Lilly smiled, leaning into Ian as they started their way back to the restraunt. She knew they couldn't erase what had happened, but with friends like these, they could face whatever came next. And for tonight, that was enough.

"There you guys are! We thought you had been kidnapped or something." Darius said looking worried. Chester followed a little breathless.

"you need to change me fully. this sucks." Chester complained. he still had two more transfusions before he was a full vampire.

"Is someone worried about us?" Ian said smirking holding Lilly close.

"It's too early for it to be a joke. " Darius said playfully hitting his arm. Chester wiggled his eyebrows at me. Lilly rolled my eyes swiping at his foot which chester dodged.

"You wish"

"You know you want to?" Chester whispered.

"Maybe later."

"Rebel against what you have been taught. It's fun." Chester sang shaking his chest.

"Let's go back to the house and drink I'm not ready to call it a night yet. " Darius said interrupting chester and Lilly's little chat.

"We could play drinking games. " Chester said smirking evilly. Lilly knew he had something up his sleeve but was enjoying the night.

"Sounds fun." Ian said moving his hand to Lilly waist and pulling her along. Lilly smiled having him close.

After the long drive home chester and Lilly got changed into Their pjs while the guys got snacks. The maid had brought four different types of alcohol. Whiskey, spiced rum, black cherry vodka, and strawberry mango wine. She also placed some mixers on the little tables that she had brought.

"Thank you Nina take the rest of the night off. " Ian said smiling at the older lady. She bowed and left the room. Lilly grabbed the bag of peppered deer jerky and began munching on it happily. Lilly had grown to like eating wild game since her time in the Wilds.

Ian smirked glad she had lost her picky eating habits as well. Before Lilly liked things prepared for her but he has seen her change since the wilds. Lilly had skinned the boar and deer with the help of Chester. Prepared it for them for Dinner last night in the Wilds.

"We are going to play never have I ever game. If you have done it you have to drink. If you haven't you don't drink. "Darius said getting everyone's attention as he mixed up drinks and placed them on the table, putting the wine by itself and switching them so no one knew what was what.

"The youngest goes first which is Lilly" Darius said smirking.

"Um, never have I ever drank blood. " Lilly said knowing all of them have.

All of them drank a cup except her.

"Never have I ever kissed a werewolf. " Chester said smirking at Lilly. Ian and Lilly both drank a cup. Lilly had got the spiced rum. which burns her throat but she gets it down.

"Never have I ever been a muse. " Darius said smirking at Chester and Lilly. They both drank a cup. Thankfully Lilly got wine so it didn't taste bad. they kept playing until chester and Lilly were getting a little too tipsy. Lilly found out a little too late that pure-blood vamps and alpha werewolves had to drink a lot to get drunk.

"We have been fooled!" Lilly grabbed Chester backing away from them giggling. Lilly playfully growled.

"rawr..I'm scary." Drunken Chester giggled.

After that Darius and Ian took the bottle of wine from Chester and Lilly. They turned some music on chester and Lilly started dancing and pulling Darius and Ian to them to dance.

After Chester and Lilly had the great idea to hide in the house until Darius and Ian came and found them. If they hadn't been tipsy they would have known they were going to lose.

Lilly ran down the stairs to the kitchen to get a snack then into the library and hid underneath the desk with twisters in her hands. Lilly ate them while she waited to be found. After a few minutes, Lilly heard the door open. She felt her heart pounding from the excitement of the game. Lilly put her hand over her mouth to keep herself from giggling.

"thump thump thump thump." Lilly heard Ian's shoes.

"Oh, where could my lilly bear be?" Ian asked the air. Lilly could hear him go towards the couch and look. She stayed silent, Lilly knew he already knew where she was because of his wolf scenes. He went around the table coming closer to her.

"Hmm. " Ian said walking away. Lilly heard him move around the room before the door closed again. Lilly confused, waited a few moments before peeking out from underneath the desk.

"There is my Lilly. " Ian said sitting on the desk looking at her. Lilly gasped she didn't know he had mastered the silent walk she had taught them in the Wilds.

"Here I am." Lilly laughed, smiling at Ian and leaning against the desk admiring him.

"You know I think you're handsome" Lilly slurred then giggled at herself. She knew she was being bolder than she had been. but she didn't want to waste any more time. she wanted to be able to tell Ian how she felt instead of locking it away inside her.

"Oh really?" Ian purred leaning closer to her and eating up her attention.

"Mhm. I always thought you were, I was just too scared to say it." Lilly said getting up and giving him a small kiss then pulled away quickly, taking off.

"tricky girl." He laughed following after her. Lilly bumped into Chester in the hall; who laughed spun her around then took off when he saw Darius. Lilly ran up the stairs and jumped onto the bed hiding under the covers. it hadn't taken Ian any time to follow her into the bedroom. Ian crawled under the covers prowling towards her smirking. Lilly felt her want for him wash over her as she looked into his eyes.

" You found me again. " Lilly giggled as he kept prowling towards her. his eyes turning from blue to yellowish eyes. Lilly felt aroused by the possessiveness in his eyes.

"You're mine. " Ian said possessively, pinning her between him and the bed. Lilly shivered, looking up into his eyes mesmerized. She wasn't scared of his wolf anymore. Lilly touched his cheek.

"I'm yours. " Lilly whispered, leaning up and pressing her lips against his. Ian leaned down, wrapping her legs around his waist and deepening their kiss. Lilly moaned hearing him growl lightly. He kissed her slightly exposed neck; Lilly gasped, feeling his teeth scrap her neck. Lilly ran her hands in his hair feeling too warm in her skin.
