"Lilly wake up we have company," Chester urged afraid. Lilly sat up quickly grabbing her hairpin, ready to fight.
"Where?" Lilly whispers searching their room. She didn't see anyone.
"Outside. They have us surrounded." Chester whispered not taking his eyes off the threat.
Lilly looked out the window expecting to see the hybrids; instead, Lilly found huge wolves surrounding the building they were in. Lilly was confused but relaxed a little but not much. Lilly had never seen wolves like these before. They didn't seem like werewolves. they were tall like them standing almost five feet high on four feet and were slim. Lilly didn't feel scared looking at them. She felt a sense of connection to the massive wolves watching them.
"What do we do Lilly? " Chester said frightened. Lilly knew he was scared, she was a little scared herself.
"They already know we are here. Let me see if I can talk to them." Lilly said already moving towards the door.
"That's crazy you can't do that." Chester half yelled whispers as he got in front of the door to stop her. Lilly looked at her best friend and smiled.
"We can't fight them and I don't want to lose you two. I'm the best shot with the wolves. Wait til I tell you to and then escape if they attack. if they don't attack; Then come down when I say." Lilly said slowly opening the door and moving Chester. Lilly slid out the door and down the snow-covered steps. keeping her eyes to the ground. The wolves were as tall as her. She knew she should have been terrified but she wasn't she felt relieved.
"I mean you no harm. we are lost. " Lilly heard a few growls but they didn't attack her. Lilly heard a wolf come closer to her. She got on all four waiting for the alpha to attack her.
Lilly felt the snowy ground move under her as a black paw came inches from her face. Lilly stayed perfectly still, waiting. It sniffed at her neck and face before nudging her. Lilly rolled over showing submission. Lilly gasped seeing the massive wolf. The wolf's yellow eyes were sharp, its black fur showed brightly in the dark forest almost glowing from his power. His yellow eyes shined looking Lilly over. He sniffed Lilly's clothes snorting and shaking his head nudging her neck to the side before sitting on his hunches.
Lilly slowly got up with her head still tilted to the side. The wolf barked once before the other Wolves came towards her sniffing and rubbing against Lilly getting their scent on her. They had accepted her as one of them. Lilly looked up at Chester nodding telling them to come down. Chester kept Rose behind him as he went towards Lilly. The alpha looked at them and then back at Lilly. Lilly showed her neck further to please the alpha.
"Get on all fours and tilt your head. Make sure Rose rubs against you, getting the hill guard's smell on you." Lilly said to them as they slid from behind her. The alpha sniffed them and kept sniffing Chester; which was making Lilly worry. Chester did as he was told, showing his stomach to the alpha, waiting until the alpha had finally given his approval.
The other soon rubbed against him getting their scent on Chester. The alpha had taken a liking to Rose as he licked her cheek making her giggle. Lilly smiled feeling herself relax. For the moment they were safe. Lilly didn't know how safe they were yet but they were safe. The massive wolves led them to their cave that had been hidden with vines and tree roots further ahead.
"What are we doing we should be moving on. " Chester whispered as one of the pups that were the size of a regular wolf sniffed at him wanting to play.
"They aren't going to hurt us, they would of by now, Besides we are safe with them. " Lilly said looking at him
"How do you know we are safe? they are different than werewolves Lilly. " He said nervously patting the pup.
"I just feel it. I notice it too. do you think they are wild wolves?" Lilly asked, watching Rose. Rose hadn't seemed scared either. Rose had already started chasing after the pups and playing with them in the snow.
"No they were smaller, I don't know what they are. " Chester said keeping an eye on Rose. the alpha led them to the mouth of the cave and sat down. Lilly sat down making sure she was reading the situation correctly.
The alpha sat beside Lilly before nudging her. He got up and walked away. Lilly followed after hoping that it was what he was meaning. He took her deeper into the cave. Lilly could hear water running somewhere in the dark. The alpha nudged her arm before biting it. Lilly gasped trying to pull away from him. He growled stilling her. He released her arm before biting his paw and letting his blood drip into her wound. mixing their blood. Lilly was confused but fascinated.
The wound quickly begins to heal in front of her. Lilly didn't have healing powers but the wound was already scarred.
"Are you a werewolf?" Lilly thought looking at her arm amazed.
"No I'm not a werewolf child I'm the god of wolves." the black wolf said.
Lilly moved away from him stunned. He was speaking into her mind.
"How did you do that?" she asked confused. she had never heard of this ability before.
"Blood ties us together. You can now hear all the wolves. I can only do it to you though because you are a descendant of one of our kind. Your friends will not be able to since one is halfling of a vampire and the other is human." He said crossing his paws.
"Do you know where the humans live? We were taken from our home. " Lilly asked.
"I do but it isn't safe for you to travel. There are the bad ones that have a couple of cities the way you are heading."
"We were kidnapped by some of them and taken from our home. " Lilly said lowering her head knowing they had no chance against a whole army of hybrids. They had their share of close calls with the hybrids.
"You three will now be part of our pack. We will protect you and help you become strong warriors to fight them." the alpha said nudging Lilly's chin. It wasn't the news she wanted to hear but knew staying with the wolves would be their best bet for survival.
"What is your name alpha?" Lilly asked.
" I am shadow Blackwood. you are Lillianne Mae Carter. You have a mate but he has not changed you. Why?" the wolf demanded. Lilly winced at the question.
"I'm not ready and I'm learning what mates mean. I wasn't taught about them" Lilly admitted.
"Your father did not teach you the ways of the wolf?"
"My mother was r***d and she ran from him for hurting her. " Lilly said rubbing her shoulder. Knowing her father was a monster wasn't what Lilly wanted to be.
"He is a disgrace to his kind. Your mother was a brave human to keep you."
"Thank you. If you don't mind alpha I would like to sleep."
"Lay with your friends and rest. We will watch over you." He said touching his head to Lilly's before moving away from her. Lilly used the water to clean her blood away before laying down by already sleeping Rose and Chester on the pile of furs in the corner of the den.
"Why do I smell blood on you?" Chester whispered looking Lilly over trying to find the source.
"The alpha bit me so I could communicate with him," Lilly answered showing chester the bite on her arm. Chester touched it lightly looking at Lilly's concern.
"To communicate with you? Did u tell him why we were here?" Chester asked trying to hide his emotion.
"Yes, he says there are a few cities of hybrids the way that we were walking. We have no way of fighting them and the alpha has said we are now part of their pack. They will protect us and make us into warriors" Lilly retold.
"Oh, how I wish Darius was here. i miss him so much! " Chester groaned into the furs he was lying on.
"It will be fine they will find us now get some rest," Lilly said exhausted. Lilly knew they were still searching for them.
-----------------------------------------------------------
(Lilly, Chester, and Rose have been out in the wild for two months now.)
For the next month, the pack became their new family. The wolves taught them the ways of the Wilds, imparting knowledge and skills that would have been lost to time if not for the bond between Lilly and the alpha. Chester learned to hunt with the wolves, his vampire senses honed to an even sharper edge by their teachings, and how to avoid the hybrids that roamed the wilds. He moved through the forest with a new confidence, his bond with the wolves making him a more formidable predator.
Lilly was more wolf than human. She moved with the grace of a predator, her senses heightened beyond anything she had ever experienced. The pack had taught them to move through the shadows, to become one with the forest, the snow, and the very earth beneath their feet.
Lilly looked down at her arm, where the alpha's bite had left a jagged scar. It pulsed with a strange warmth, a reminder of the bond they now shared. She could feel the alpha's presence in her mind, a comforting weight that anchored her in this chaotic world. The pack was more than just their protectors; they were family.
Rose, too, had found her place within the pack. The wolf pups had taken to her immediately, and she spent her days playing and learning alongside them. It was as if the wild had embraced her, soothing her fear and filling the void left by the loss of their home. Lilly worried for her sister, but she knew that the pack would keep her safe. The wolves had become her guardians, teaching her the ways of their kind, and helping her to adapt to this harsh new reality.
As the day drew to a close, the ruins of the city became even more desolate, the shadows lengthening as the light faded. Lilly could feel the pack stirring around them, their restlessness signaling that it was time to move. They couldn't stay in one place for too long; the hybrids were always searching, always hunting. The pack knew this, and they had taught Lilly and Chester well.
The alpha appeared out of the gloom, his massive form moving with an effortless grace. He approached Lilly, his eyes locking onto hers. A wave of calm washed over her, and she knew what he was telling her. It was time to go.
She nodded, her thoughts merging with his, understanding his plans without needing words. Chester was already on his feet, his eyes alert, scanning the ruins for any sign of movement. Rose stood beside him, her small frame dwarfed by the wolf pup that nudged her affectionately.
The pack moved as one, slipping through the shadows, and leaving the forgotten city behind. Lilly could feel the power of the alpha guiding them, his presence a constant reassurance in her mind. They were not alone. They had the pack, and together, they would survive. They would find a way to evade the hybrids, to keep each other safe, until the day they could return home—or whatever home they might find in this desolate world.
The wind howled through the ruins as they left, a mournful cry that echoed through the night. But Lilly didn't look back. Her place was with the pack now, her family. And they would keep moving forward, through the wilds, through the darkness, until they found the light again.
But even as they adapted to their new life, a part of Lilly longed for the day they would be found. The wolves had given them safety and strength, but they could not replace the family they had lost. Each night, as they huddled together in the warmth of the pack's cave, Lilly would gaze up at the stars, silently wishing for Ian and Darius to find them, to bring them back home.
Yet, for now, the Wilds were their home, and the pack was their family. Lilly, Chester, and Rose had become one with the forest, their bond with the wolves a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. They had survived, and they would continue to survive, for as long as it took.
