What it means
Happy birthday.
Ly wakes up in a haze, usually a day such as this should be celebrated. It was her birthday. “Ly, when your ready I’ll be down stairs. I know its hard but..” the faint sigh of Kyron my uncle. “I’ll be here when your ready Ly”. Laying lifeless upon her bed as the sunlight creeps upon her skin Ly has no choice but to get up and head towards whats shes dreaded all year. Her 18th birthday and 13 year anniversary of her parents death.
“Ly,” kyron gazes up at his now groggy teenage niece. “Same dream?” “Yes” a faint squeak from ly was heard. “It’s been hard on us both, my little sister your mom. I know she loved you dearly. I just wish you got the opportunity to know her. “ he paused before stepping into the kitchen.
“What was she like uncle?” I have missed out on a family and i needed to know. Kyron has been reluctant to answer in the past but I’m dying for answers. “Please i need to know. Do we have any similarities? Did she like running? Please uncle.” A small smile creeps onto his face. “Alright kiddo i guess it’s time” excitement fill my stomach finally.
“Your mum was my little sister. Growing up i adored and cherished her with every fibre in my body. We didn’t have the best parents. Your grandmother had battled her addiction to drugs and alcohol after the passing of your grandad. I had no choice but to step up and look after both my mother and yours. Despite the ups and downs kyra was a happy kid. No she hated running, but if i have to admit your just freakishly fast” Kyron chimed in making me laugh. He was right I am the fastest in my school male or female. I have been scouted to multiple colleges within the past year that i have more than 5 college plans. “A gift from my dad perhaps” I shrugged.
“Kyra spent her time in her own little world most of the time, singing, dancing. She was convinced she would be the next Jennifer lopez and I never doubted that for a fact. She was amazing. One day she came home with a boy she introduced as her boyfriend.” Suddenly the room felt heavy. “My dad?” I asked trying to read the expression on his face. “No your dad although i don’t know him as well as your mother, He was a good guy with good intentions. When you saw them two together the room would stop in awe. Livon was a great guy. This guy unfortunately was not. He used your mother as a way to escape his problems. I wont get into the details but once livon was in the picture Kyra started glowing again.” He said as the weight of the room felt light again.
“Livon asked for her hand in marriage a few months into the relationship and I obliged. The wedding was beautiful and within a year you were born Ly. Your mother and father were living more than 12 hours away so i didn’t visit as often as I liked but when i did I was always struck in awe. Your birth place is beautiful crystal lakes, thick lush forest and the wild life friendly as can be. Its strange but i would often see wolves out in the depths of the forest. I was never scared as they were only curious. Its as tho they were looking out for me.” Thats strange I thought to myself. “Do you think i can go back sometime?” Unfortunately i already knew the answer. Uncle kyron has no recollection of the location of my birth place, as if every time he left he suffered amnesia.
“That’s enough for now kid pick up another time? As for right now i can hear your stomach from here breakfast?” He says smirking in my direction. “Pancakes” we say in unison and a small smile creeps upon our face.
Uncle Kyron disappears for awhile while im left with my thoughts, or more so the vivid memory of a dream that has haunted me for the last 15 years. The night of the house fire.
“LY, Ly honey you have to wake up its not safe for you baby you need to run now.” A hysteric women is screaming at me. In no time I am engulfed in the arms of a man. As he covers me in a blanket and kisses me on the forehead looking into my eyes he says “I love you”. Blood now pouring frim the side of him he launches me into a jeep I hear him yell at the driver “leave now before its too late”.
With one last glance he turns and slams the door running into the house. That’s when i saw it, a black flash and then silence. Nothing can be heard. Then put of no where a Menacing ringing until. Boom. My home my family my life went up in flames. And thats where i wake up. The rest is a blur.
Uncle Kyron has only recently found out about the reoccurring dream. He had heard me scream one night. When he awoke me I couldn’t recall what had made me scream in horror. But since that night he has been checking in on me sleeping. I caved and told him about the reoccurring dream that has haunted me since the night i lost my family. Although to his knowledge it has only been a year.
Reality settles as chocolate chip pancakes bananas and whip cream fill the air. “Happy birthday kiddo” uncle kyron says with a sympathetic smile. Neither of us know how to act on a day such is this. But taking the reins I smile “THANK YOU UNCLE KYYYYYRONNIE”. Laughter erupts between the both of us. A name i gifted him when i first saw him. This is a day to be celebrated I’m freaking 18.
The morning soon shifts to mid day. The pancakes have so far satisfied me till lunch time. I am now at school and no one has said a thing to me as per usual. Yup thats right I’m the schools rejected outcast. A loner or loners. No one wants a orphan as a friend let alone me. I stood out from everyone my long black curled hair with streaks of gre, natural grey streaks. I often get snarky remarks from people such as “emo”, “attention seeker”, “Reject”. But all of it was minor compared to the torture i have endured from Litivin. The High school princess who walks as if a stuck is up her ass 24/7, pretty blonde bimbo who leeches off the schools jocks. Yes the classic Regina George although she will only ever show that side to me.
Litivin has hated me from the very beginning ever since I started here at Locks High school. I have been her personal punching bag ever since. I have tried to report her countless times but once i found out her father was the principle all hopes went out the window. She ran this school and no one knew how cruel she was except for me. Because I was different? Because I was new? A few more months and she will never see me again that I can guarantee.
