In the dimly lit room, only Lin An remained, feeling deflated as she lay down on the soft bed, covering her eyes with the back of her hand, feeling anxious and restless.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of dripping water, and she removed her hand from her eyes to see the faint silhouette of a man in the bright bathroom reflected on the semi-transparent frosted glass.
She could vaguely make out the man standing under the shower, tilting his head back as the water cascaded over his high nose, along his thin lips, down his perfectly contoured chin, and finally flowing below his chest.
Lin An felt her mouth go dry, hastily diverting her gaze elsewhere. She didn't want to be interested in Song Chengran anymore, she had already made up her mind.
Despite her efforts to force herself to think that way, the tantalizing sound of dripping water still filled her ears.
Before long, the sound stopped. Song Chengran emerged from the bathroom, and Lin An instinctively looked at him. However, what she saw shocked her.
There were no clothes belonging to Song Chengran here. He was only wrapped in a small towel around his lower body. The man's unnaturally fair skin, the firm and muscular arms accentuating the smooth lines of his muscles, the graceful collarbones, and the damp, sensual allure emanating from his bare chest under the effect of the hot water. His tight and strong abdominal muscles, combined with his fair skin, did not seem out of place at all but carried a seductive charm.
There were veins on his lower abdomen, displaying his strength like climbing vines, while his long legs, revealed under the towel, were slender and straight, devoid of any rugged muscles, yet with firm and hard contours.
Through the bright light of the bathroom, the area between the man's legs, although shrouded in shadow, appeared large even without arousal.
"What are you looking at?" Song Chengran's usually cold voice, at this moment, also carried a sticky dampness. His black hair was casually combed to the back, fully revealing his indifferent yet handsome face, with a glimmer of light in his eyes.
Then, Song Chengran turned off the bathroom light, plunging the room back into quiet darkness.
Lin An lowered her head in annoyance. How could she have stared at Song Chengran for so long again? Realizing she was still lying down, she abruptly sat up, hastily straightening her posture. To cover her embarrassment, she began to search for a topic. "Are you... staying here tonight?"
The mattress beside her sank slightly, and Lin An caught a whiff of the faint milk scent of shower gel, sweet and tempting, making her unable to resist the urge to move closer.
Even though they both used the same shower gel, why did Song Chengran's smell so much better?
"Mmm." Song Chengran sat upright, his back muscles tense, showing signs of not relaxing.
Lin An found herself in a subtle and conflicting mood. If Song Chengran stayed tonight, it meant they had to sleep on the same bed. But Song Chengran clearly didn't want to be close to her.
Lin An stood up abruptly. "Chengran, you can sleep on this bed tonight." She feared Song Chengran's OCD might act up again and added, "It's very clean."
"And I'll sleep over there."
Song Chengran glanced at where Lin An pointed, at a small sofa. He furrowed his brows. "Are you avoiding me?"
Lin An was taken aback. What did he mean by she was avoiding him? It was him who didn't want her touch, let alone sleeping together.
Feeling a bit aggrieved, Lin An was about to retort. But Song Chengran had already lain down on the bed, his body tense. Though nervous, his tone remained cold. "Come sleep here."
Song Chengran stared at the ceiling, the soft mattress and the thin blanket unfamiliar to him, but clean. All sensations of his body were normal, and there was no resistance here as he had imagined.
His eyelashes trembled in the dark. He had OCD, more precisely, psychological OCD, born from some hidden secret deeply hidden in his heart, unwilling to be discovered by others.
Lin An sighed silently. Since Song Chengran was so calm, she felt childish to resist any longer. Gathering her resolve, she climbed onto the bed.
She lay stiffly on one side of the bed, leaving a considerable distance between herself and Song Chengran. When she covered herself with the blanket, she felt the space in between, so she moved a little closer to the middle of the bed.
Just as she settled, she felt the warmth emanating from the man beside her.
Her thoughts began to wander, and she involuntarily thought of ancient emperors and their concubines. Why would women warm the bed for men when they were so full of vitality and warmth?
Song Chengran was still naked, lying so close to her.
Lin An's thoughts drifted, and she couldn't help but feel drawn to the man she had been yearning for over the past six months. No matter how hard she tried to suppress her wandering thoughts, she couldn't ignore the calm rhythm of his breathing.
Even though she had seen Song Chengran with another woman, even though she had made up her mind to give up, why was her heart still pounding for him at this moment?
Many memories flooded her mind, but Lin An bit her lip hard, trying to block out the bitter love. Since she had seen the result, there was no need to continue struggling foolishly.
She decided to sleep quietly. When she woke up tomorrow morning, they would still maintain their nominal marital relationship.
"Lin An."
The man's voice made Lin An's pupils contract. She tried to make her voice sound normal, "What is it?"
"Do you have something to tell me tonight?" Song Chengran turned his face to look at Lin An, who was sleeping with her back to him, his voice calm as he inquired.
"I..." What needed to be said had finally come out. Lin An tightened the blanket around her chest, crumpling it into a ball, "I want to divorce you."
Finally, she said it.
Song Chengran's head buzzed, his eyes darkening with incredulity and a hint of anger that he couldn't understand, but he didn't erupt. He had considered many possibilities, but he hadn't guessed that Lin An would mention divorce.
"Why?" His voice became cold.
The sudden drop in temperature made Lin An shiver involuntarily. She didn't know where she was at this moment, feeling as if her soul had been stripped bare, leaving her empty.
"Because..." Lin An exhaled slowly, turning to face Song Chengran, "You don't have any feelings for me, do you?"
The words were light, but the deep sadness and desolation on Lin An's face at this moment were particularly profound.
The sentence entered Song Chengran's ears, and it felt like a raging fire burning in his heart. Lin An thought he had no feelings for her?
The silent air made Lin An feel colder and colder, her heart becoming more and more desolate. She didn't know where she was at this moment, feeling as if her soul had been stripped bare, leaving her empty.
"Lin An, you think... I don't love you?"
The extremely indifferent response left Lin An stunned. After making up her mind for so long, he didn't care at all.
