I had sprinted all the way to the sleek, shiny tall building, the sign at the top staring back down at me, like it was trying to intimidate me. Salvatore Security. Upon entering the building, I had gone to the front desk asking them to let me through to see Will, but the receptionist was adamant that he was too busy to see me right now.
“Please, I just need to see him for five minutes.” I begged her.
"Mr. Monroe is in a meeting. I cannot disturb him right now, miss." She was one stubborn lady.
“Please, this is urgent; it won’t take longer than a few minutes. I just need to-.” I was cut off by the presence of someone coming to stand next to me.
“Is there a problem?” The man next to me asked the receptionist, his voice firm and deep with a slight roughness to it. I look over, my eye catching the custom tailored suit, the designer gold watch, well kept hair that looked good enough to run your fingers through, and dark green eyes meeting mine. Grayson Salvatore, CEO of Salvatore Security, almost looked like he belonged in a mafia movie, but he made it work.
“No, sir, I was just explaining to her that Mr. Monroe was currently busy, and he can’t see her right now.” I groan, getting a bit irritated with her repetitive words. He returned his gaze to me, having to tilt his head down a bit since I was an entire head shorter than him.
“Come wait in my office, Violet. I’ll have them send Will up as well.” Whenever Grayson said my name, it made me feel dizzy and all fluttery inside. Grayson and Will have been best friends since they were little boys falling off their bikes. They have been together through tick and thin, sharing many moments with one another, growing closer each day. Grayson has been around since I can remember, what I don't remember is getting a crush on him. I can't recall when I started liking the way he carried himself, or the way he dresses, or his hands, gosh...those hands...
I shook my head, trying to chase away those thoughts, as Grayson kept staring at me, waiting for me to move. We rode the elevator in silence, and I tried very hard not to get too close to him. I didn’t trust myself being in such close proximity with him. The elevator stopped and the doors dinged open, right into his office. The space was decorated in a minimalistic way, mostly shades of white and grey. Two white couches were facing each other with an expensive looking glass coffee table in the center of the office, and across the room there were floor to ceiling windows overlooking most of the city. Grayson strolled past me, heading for the large dark oak desk in front of the windows, and sat down. He looked at me for a few seconds, and when I didn't move, he gestured for me to sit down. I chose the couch, not wanting to sit in the chair opposite his desk since it felt too close. We sat in silence for a while, waiting fot Will to show up, time seeming to crawl at the pace of a tortoise. My body was now shivering uncontrollably, my teeth chattering together loudly. I bit down on my cheek, pinched my eyes shut and tried to get my shaking limbs under control, when I felt something brush my shoulders. Grayson stood behind me and the couch, draping his jacket over me. I jerked my head back, looking at him in shock. His eyes were hard as they stared at me.
"Your body is in shock, so your temperature is dropping, hence why you are shivering." I nod, gripping the lapels of the jacket closer to my body. He walked around the couch I was seated on and sat down opposite me on the other couch. His eyes were boring in me, like he was trying to investigate me.
"You look distraught, Violet. Anything I can help you with?" He asked me. My gaze dropped to my hands in my lap, my heart still racing. It's not that I couldn’t trust Grayson, but it felt too intimate to lean on him for support when all I ever do is try and avoid him. I glanced back up at him, his arm now draped over the back of the couch in a leisurely manner. Man he looks fine! Since his jacket was with me he was only left in his waistcoat and button up shirt, the white sleeves rolled up over his muscular forearms. My cheeks flushed as I scanned him over, my pulse racing. He crossed his ankle over his knee, getting comfortable, waiting for my response. The sight of him like this was quite intimidating, and I could understand why most people feared Grayson Salvatore. Grayson had an air around him that demanded attention, he demanded respect and if anyone crossed him, they would pay the price. That and the fact that he was well versed with weapons training, hand to hand combat amongst various other fighting styles, and that he used to be in the black ops in the military. His exhale brought me out of my train of thought, and eyes snap up, meeting a dark forest green.
"I, uh...there was..." I wring my hands, trying to come up with a way to say what had happened, but words seem to have left my mind.
"You can tell me, Violet." It might've just been my mind playing a cruel trick on me, but I saw worry flash in his eyes, his voice softening a touch when he spoke to me. I furrow my brow. He was probably only worried since I am his best friend's sister, and because it literally is his job to provide protection for people. Just as I opened my mouth to speak again, the door burst open and Will rushed into the office. His eyes were frantic as they landed on me, his shoulders rapidly rising and falling.
"Vi? What's wrong? Are you ok? Why are you here?" He shot rapid fire questions at me, my already dizzy head spinning faster. He crossed the room to where I was sitting and plonked down on the couch beside me. As soon as he sat down, the last of my nerves gave out, and the tears rolled like rivers down my face.
"What happened, Vi? You're scaring me." He held my face in his hands, trying to rub away the tears, but they kept coming. A nasty sounding sob, racked my body, bringing back the shivers along with it.
"Th-there was a...a man ch-chasing after me on my r-run this morning." I was crying like a kid who dropped his ice cream.
"What?! Who was it? Was it the paps?" Will’s voice carried an edge, his big brother protection mode slipping into place. I shook my head as I replied.
"No, I d-don't know." His long, large arms enveloped me into a tight hug, his hands rubbing soothing circles on my back.
"Shhh, it's okay now. It's over." He whispered to me, my body still shaking.
"you need to tell me everything, Vi. I know it's scary and it's hard, but you need to tell me so that I can help you, okay?" He pulled back slightly and looked me deep in the eyes.
I couldn’t really meet his gaze, not wanting him to see this weak part of me. I never want to burden my brother, but my life might be in danger, and I know I can't protect myself. I took a deep breath, gave them both a look, and started talking.
