12 Thorne “Vingian scholars once kept thousands of books on transcendence. Sadly, most of these have disappeared.” - Empress Ophelia, author of The Lost Book of Transcendence I follow the Marshall and his warriors through a warren of sandy roads. On either side of these streets stand small white-washed dwellings made from clay. Ascetics stand outside their homes in neat rows, their long white robes fluttering in the wind. Anxiety rolls off them in waves. Beyond the Greeter, no one has been killed yet. Doesn’t mean things will stay that way. A tall Komandir warrior in a black fringed jacket steps along at our side, his silver star glimmering on his chest. “I’m Sheriff Jones. We’re after the imperial family, not the Vingian people. Stay still and live.” It’s a classic Komandir approach.
