Shakira Andrea Sison It was Madeleine who saw it first. A large sea turtle was tied by its legs to a bamboo pole and was being carried by two fishermen from their boat to the village. She ran after it, motioning for Gina to follow her. “I need you to talk to them,” Madeleine said, an urgent look on her freckled face. Gina and I gathered our things from the beach and followed Madeleine, who chased after the turtle and the men who looked intent on accomplishing their task as quickly as possible. Dusting sand off my legs, I looked at Gina who looked back at me a few feet ahead, her eyes bulging. “Ano ba, Pia? Hurry! The white woman looks serious!” She said. I rushed to follow Gina, who was following Madeleine, who was following the turtle already making its way through the seaside barrio
