April hits, and with it, the last of Ryan’s offers rolls in. He is treated to Mara shrieking down the phone at him over their three common offers, and a sudden wave of panic that this is it. His future is staring him in the face, and this is the point at which his life will change forever. Quite suddenly, his social life is turned on its head. He abruptly stops hanging out with the guys after school, and resolutely stops skipping classes when Tom feels bored. Even Jennifer is shafted in favour of revision, of coursework, of studying.
