Chapter SevenEvelyn sat alone in the lounge, staring at salmon coloured, flowery wallpaper and the flickering flames of the topaz fire. It was mid-afternoon, Sunday she thought. The days since Mam's death had fused into one, so without looking at the calendar, she wasn't exactly sure what day it was anymore. She knew it was the weekend, there had been children playing in the street all day, whooping and laughing as they raced up and down on bikes and scooters – no school for them today. She flicked on the television, Songs of Praise blared from the screen. Ah, so it was Sunday after all. She thought maybe she should eat something.
