"Lillian, are you crazy? You actually tried to kill someone!"
Evan slapped me to the ground. Without even looking at me, he rushed toward Natalie, who was slumped on the floor.
"Nat, are you alright? Did you get hurt?"
The woman who had just been so arrogantly domineering now looked up with tearful, aggrieved eyes. "Mr. Gray, you saw it now. Lili not only refused to cooperate with the experiment, she even tried to attack me! I'm so scared..." She curled into herself as Evan pulled her into his arms, a flash of smug satisfaction crossing her eyes.
After comforting Natalie, Evan grabbed my hair and forced my head up.
"I was going to let you rest for a while. But since you still have energy, we might as well start the experiment now."
I let out a cold laugh. "Bring the divorce agreement and sign it first."
"Lillian, you're in no position to negotiate with me." He threw me in front of Natalie like discarded trash. "Nat, continue. Do whatever you want. Don't hold back."
At his words, Natalie's eyes lit up.
Before the experiment began, she held up a vial of medicine and shook it in front of me.
"Lillian, this is an untested drug. I'm really looking forward to seeing what side effects it has on you."
"Natalie, you want the position of Mrs. Gray. I'll give it to you. Was it really necessary to be this cruel?"
She scoffed and forced the liquid down my throat, lowering her voice. "I don't like leaving loose ends. So go to hell with your son."
A bitter, numbing taste filled my mouth instantly. My body began to convulse uncontrollably, and I started retching.
Evan looked at me with faint concern. "Is she unwell? Should we let her rest for a while?"
Natalie quickly shook her head. "She's having a relapse of her condition. She needs electroshock therapy immediately." She pressed the switch.
A searing current shot through my entire body. The familiar agony tore through my nerves again. I gritted my teeth and stared at Natalie, my heart full of unwilling rage.
"Lillian, cooperate with Nat. She's doing this for your own good. Someone as kind and capable as her is willing to spend time on you. You should be grateful instead of making that terrifying expression."
Evan wasn't just changed. He had gone blind.
He called this "for my own good," yet her eyes were filled with unmistakable killing intent, as if she couldn't wait to grind me into dust.
I stopped wasting words on him. Aside from demanding the divorce agreement, I had nothing left to say.
Evan answered a call and left in a hurry. "I have something to handle. I'm leaving first."
Left alone with Natalie, she no longer bothered hiding her vicious expression and sneered.
"Lillian, I actually hope you can hold on a little longer. After all, there's no test subject more obedient and useful than you. Kneel and beg me, and maybe I'll let you live a bit longer."
I lifted my eyes weakly, enduring the pain. "In your dreams."
The moment I finished speaking, Natalie smiled and turned the dial to the maximum.
"Ah—!"
My mind went blank. The pain seemed to vanish for a split second, replaced by a strange floating numbness.
"We'll talk again when you're ready."
Humming lightly, Natalie shut the door, leaving me alone with the torment of the current.
Before getting into his car, Evan felt a faint unease and glanced back at Lillian's room.
'With Nat there, nothing should go wrong.'
The thought had barely formed when the lights in Lillian's room began to flicker. Then a blinding white flash, followed by a deafening explosion, surged toward her.
BOOM—
"Lillian—!"
He lunged frantically toward her room.
