Chapter 20: A Blessing in Disguise

Soon, Geng Yi emerged wearing a plain-colored long robe, looking refined and dignified. The aura he exuded was not one that belonged to a mere butler.

Seeing this, Leng Lingyun smiled slightly in her heart. To be able to recruit such a person as a butler, it seemed that her father was not as mediocre as she remembered.

Geng Yi stepped forward to pick up Leng Lingyun and said goodbye to Chen Wang. Chen Wang smiled and looked at the two of them, saying, "Mr. Geng and the young lady, please wait a moment."

Geng Yi frowned, ready to explode, but the little hand of Leng Lingyun in his arms tugged at his chest. Then, when he looked down at her, she shook her head slightly, and Geng Yi understood and remained silent.

After a while, the soldier who had left earlier ran back quickly, holding a bundle in his arms. Chen Wang walked to the door and took the bundle from him.

He then walked up to the two of them and took out a red cape from the bundle, gently draping it over Leng Lingyun.

"Putting this cape on the young lady can at least cover her up, so as not to attract idle gossip from the people of the eldest master's residence when we return to the residence later."

Seeing his action, Geng Yi was overjoyed and also lamented that he had been too anxious and careless, not noticing such an important thing. He hurriedly thanked Chen Wang, "Thanks to Brother Chen's thoughtfulness."

With Leng Lingyun's tacit consent, Geng Yi smiled and said, "I encountered the young lady at the city gate just now and was also very shocked. However, it seems that this time the young lady has indeed been blessed by misfortune."

"Haha, that's really great," Chen Wang said, his emotions getting the better of him as he laughed heartily.

Leng Lingyun deliberately spoke in the tone of a five-year-old child. After all, her sudden change from foolishness to normalcy was already astonishing. She definitely couldn't reveal too much that didn't match her age, or she might be considered possessed and get taken away.

"Young lady, you flatter Chen Wang too much. The term 'uncle' is not appropriate. Please rest assured, as long as it is the young lady's request, Chen Wang will abide by it," Chen Wang said solemnly.

"Young lady, I am sure you are aware of the environment in which you have lived. You don't seem to care much about hierarchy and status. You just know who treats you well and you want to show them the respect and gratitude they deserve. So please don't mind the title, consider it Chen Wang's recognition of you and accept it graciously," Leng Lingyun continued slowly.

Geng Yi and Chen Wang exchanged glances, both seeing a flicker of light in each other's eyes.

Then Chen Wang laughed heartily again, "Since the young lady has said so, I, Chen Wang, shall accept this title of 'uncle' from the young lady."

Leng Lingyun also smiled slightly and said no more, thinking to herself that Chen Wang was open-minded and valued loyalty, a person worth cultivating. However, she didn't know how strong he was in terms of abilities and would probably need to observe him more in the future.
