Chapter17

905 Words
As they pulled up outside the hotel, the night air felt cool against their heated skin. The music from the club still rang in Zara’s ears, the adrenaline of the dance floor still coursing through her veins. Kai parked the car, his fingers tapping against the steering wheel as he turned to face her, his eyes sharp and full of something she couldn’t quite place. Zara felt the electric energy between them, the chemistry they’d shared all night lingering in the air. They’d danced, laughed, and let loose. But now, in the quiet aftermath, there was a different kind of tension. The weight of unspoken words hung between them, heavier than it had been before. Zara took a deep breath, her nerves fluttering in her stomach. This is crazy, she thought. But why not? She was tired of overthinking. She had spent too many nights questioning everything with Kai, trying to figure out what was real, what wasn’t. Tonight, all of that felt irrelevant. The music, the dancing, the chemistry—it had all led them here, to this moment. “Do you want to come up?” Zara asked, her voice soft but confident. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but she knew she wanted him there. She wasn’t ready for the night to end, not yet. Kai’s gaze lingered on her, a mixture of surprise and desire flickering in his eyes. His lips curled into a small smirk, a silent acknowledgment of the invitation, but he didn’t speak immediately. For a moment, there was just the sound of their breathing and the hum of the city in the background. Zara’s heart raced as she waited for his answer, feeling vulnerable but bold in that moment. She wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol, the excitement, or the sheer desire for something real between them, but she couldn’t help herself. “Yeah,” Kai finally said, his voice low, almost a growl. He leaned over, brushing a strand of hair from her face, and for a moment, the world outside the car seemed to disappear. “I’d like that.” Without another word, they both got out of the car. Kai followed her into the hotel lobby, his presence close behind her, and the weight of his attention on her skin felt like an electric charge. The silence between them was charged, their steps quick as they made their way to the elevator. The elevator ride was short, but it felt long. Zara stood next to him, her heart thumping in her chest, wondering if this was the right decision. She felt him so close, yet so far away in this silence. The doors opened with a soft chime, and they stepped out into the hallway. Zara led him to her room, her keycard sliding into the door with a soft click. When the door swung open, the warmth of the room enveloped them. Kai didn’t hesitate. He stepped inside, his eyes immediately scanning the room, but his attention quickly returned to her. There was something magnetic in the way he looked at her, as if all the tension that had been building throughout the night was finally ready to be released. Zara felt it too. She closed the door behind them, her pulse quickening as she turned to face him. Kai stood by the bed, watching her with an unreadable expression, and Zara felt the weight of everything—the shared past, the confusion, the pain—but also something else: the undeniable pull between them. "Do you want a drink?" Zara asked, her voice slightly shaky as she tried to maintain control, but the desire in her was stronger than any hesitation she had left. Kai shook his head slowly. “No drink,” he said, his voice low. “I just want you.” Zara’s breath hitched, the rawness in his voice sending a rush of warmth through her. Without another word, she crossed the room, closing the distance between them. They were standing inches apart now, the air thick with anticipation. Kai’s hand reached for her, pulling her gently toward him. He kissed her—slow, deep, and overwhelming—as if every second that had passed since they last touched was being erased in that one moment. Zara melted into him, her hands tangling in his hair, feeling the heat of him against her. As the kiss deepened, everything else faded away. There were no questions, no doubts. Just the two of them, in this space, with nothing else but the raw energy between them. Kai’s hands roamed to her back, pulling her closer, his lips never leaving hers. Zara could feel his heart beating against her chest, the intensity of the moment filling the air. She had no idea what was going to happen next, but for the first time in a long while, she didn’t care. She was done questioning. Tonight, she was going to live in the moment. Kai pulled away slightly, his breath coming fast, and looked into her eyes. “Are you sure?” he asked, his voice hushed, almost a whisper. Zara nodded, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw. “I’m sure,” she replied, her voice steady despite the fluttering in her chest. Without another word, he pulled her back toward him, and the rest of the night unfolded with an intensity neither of them could have predicted.
