The silence in the car was deafening. Zara sat stiffly in the passenger seat, her gaze fixed on the blurred lights of the passing cityscape. Kai drove, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, his jaw clenched. The air between them was thick with unspoken words, the remnants of their painful conversation hanging heavy.
Zara tried to ignore the tension and focus on the rhythmic thumping of the tires on the pavement, but her mind kept replaying Kai's confession, the sting of his interruption.
She glanced at him, his profile illuminated by the soft glow of the dashboard. He looked exhausted, his eyes shadowed with worry. She wondered if he regretted his confession, if he wished he could take back the words that had laid bare the truth of his betrayal. But the damage was done. Kai nodded, his gaze fixed on the road. "I… I'm sorry, Zara," he mumbled, his voice thick with regret. "I know I don't deserve it, but I hope you can forgive me someday."
Zara hesitated, her hand hovering over the door handle. The words trembled on her lips, but she couldn't bring herself to utter them. Forgiveness, it seemed, was a long way off.
With a final, lingering look at Kai, she stepped out of the car and walked towards the hotel entrance, leaving him alone in the silence of the night. The doorman held the door open for her, a silent witness to the unspoken drama that had unfolded within the confines of the black car. Zara stepped inside, the cool air of the lobby a stark contrast to the emotional turmoil that raged within her.
