Wes and Rita

Alora's pov The next few days are the loneliest I've felt in a while, the feeling is familiar. It reminds me of when I was little and Eleanor would leave me for days to go to God knows where. I used to lock myself in my room just in case someone broke into the house and all I ate was noodles because that was all I knew how to. All of this was before I met Hadley, I would always go to her place on days like that and from then on I always had company and good food. I miss my best friend. I might be lonely but I'm not bored because there is a lot to do around here from gardening, to painting and when I didn't want to do either of those I would wander around the house with so many rooms and books to read. It’s like an old castle! How am I just finding out that there's a stable? The vast amount of land makes sense now. “This is beautiful” I say to my maid Laura as we enter the stables. She's so kind and I asked her to take me there. I was curious to know what Seth's routine was like I wanted to know if he did anything else other than what he's been doing the past few days, which is to come home and go straight to his office or bedroom so Laura told me about horse riding and he frequently played the huge piano in the living room as well. It sounded like she was talking about someone else, I can't imagine him doing either of those activities because all I know is this huge, mean man but of course I don't know all parts of him; not that I want to know because he's not why I am here. Zaylee can figure him out when I find her. “I take you to the stable keeper” Laura says to me then yells the name “Gregory” and a young man comes out of one of the stalls. I learnt that Laura came to America from the Philippines and so her English is not very fluent. “This is Miss Van Doren, she want to ride horse,” Laura says as Gregory approaches us and he bows to me. What a gentleman. “Uh…I don't know how to ride horses but I want to learn, can I see them?” I ask him. I can already see one of them, a black horse peeking at us from his stall. “Yes ma'am” He says and we follow him to both stalls. There are two horses, the black male horse is Wes and Rita is the white female horse. Gregory has been taking care of them for two years. I take my time petting and feeding them both, they're friendly horses. “I understand I can't ride them till spring maybe” I say and Gregory chuckles. “That's correct ma'am but I suggest you check with Mr. Van Doren, he’s the only one that rides them” He says. I don't understand. “What do you mean? You've never?” I ask and he shakes his head. “He's an excellent rider by the way,” Gregory says. Why doesn't he let Greg ride the horses? I'm sure it's nothing personal, is it? Laura and I return to the mansion after a few more minutes with the horses and luckily Seth is just walking down the stairs because I want to talk to him, he on the other hand glances at me like a disease has just entered the room but I'm carried away by how handsome he looks and how he smells like heaven to focus on the fact that he probably detests me. He's dressed in a dark green suit that definitely costs more than my rent, I guess he's off to work. He spares me a singular glance before he walks past me and I instinctively grab his arm. He stills and turns his head to stare at my hand on his elbow and I'm suddenly scared of his reaction but I try not to show it. What do I have to be scared about? Nothing but that cold stare brings back memories that I hate. “I'm sorry” I say as I let go of him and clear my throat. Seth's p.o.v The past few days have felt…different. I see her interact with the helpers, I think they like her better than me. I try not to but I watch her through my window while she helps the gardeners in the garden which is a surprise to me because I believe she mentioned she was allergic to some of the flowers in there. I have also seen her paintings. Last night I saw her asleep in the painting room when I returned. I wanted to part the hairs that had fallen on her face and carry her to her room but I resisted the urge and let her be. So far our arrangement is going as planned. I saw her discover the stables this morning, I wonder what she wants from me now. I have all of these helpers here so she won't need me. “What is it?” I ask as I keep on walking and she follows beside me. “Wes and Rita, I would like to take them out for a ride sometime” She says and I pause. Of course. Gregory told her she needs my permission. “No” I answer plainly. “Anything else?” She frowns. “What, why not?” She asks and I raise a brow. “Because I just said so,” I reply. Gregory never asked why I forbade him from riding them so why should she? “I need an actual reason or I'm going to ask Gregory to teach me,” She says as we enter the garage. “Whatever” I say. If he wants to lose his job, so be it. “It's like a car shop down here, you like cars” She says as she stares at the number of cars down here. Let's just say I collect any toys that I fancy. I ignore her and enter one of my cars and she holds the door before I can close it. “Can I at least take one of the cars from a spin?” She asks. I don't know if she's a good driver. She could injure herself or worse, ruin my car. “I don't have time for this,” I tell her. “No?” She asks. “What exactly is so important? You have me locked in this f*****g cold house for days, I can't go anywhere then I find something I want to do and I can't ride the f*****g horses!” She yells and my grip tightens on the wheel. Fucking horses? She won't even get to see them again. “Watch your tone” I warn, staring sternly at her. “And if I don't, what are you going to do about it, Seth? Do you want me to fall at your feet in fear? What kind of marriage is this really and for how long do I have to be your prisoner?” She asks. I don't know how to deal with this. I just need her to stop saying things and she's not a prisoner, if anything I'm protecting her from her reckless ways. “What is your problem Zaylee? You agreed to this” I say. She agreed to be my wife and that it wasn't going to be your typical marriage. “Agreed? You threatened my family, no one actually wants to live like this Seth so why? Was this what your mom taught you? Did she not show you enough l-” I'm sitting in my car one second and the next I have her pinned against the next car by her throat. I lost my s**t when she mentioned my mother. “How dare you?” I whisper. Her hand is on my wrist trying to pull mine off her. I see tears pool in the corner of her eyes as she stares at me, brows creased like she's begging for me to let her go but I don't. “Don't you ever mention her, understood?” I ask and she nods hastily. “You don't know the first f*****g thing about me” I say. “Mr Van Doren!” Laura calls and I immediately let go of her, realizing myself. She rubs her neck as she steps away from me. Fuck. “I'm so sorry” I apologize as I grab her arm to keep her still and check her neck for bruises. I didn't mean to grab her like that. “Get the f**k away from me!” She screams and pushes me, tears streaming down her cheeks as she stares at me in horror. She barely moves me but I step away from her. She's not bruised thankfully but I did apply pressure like a f*****g psycho. “Your family is hosting a new years eve party at the hotel tonight” I say like she didn't already know or as if that would help the situation but it's all I can do before I get in my car an d leave. I think I actually got her scared of me, maybe this is for the best and she stays away.
