Chapter 9Joshua was accustomed to travelling the road heading west out of the city, but the familiar route was made easier by a sprung carriage, frequent changes of horses, and private rooms at the inns in which they stayed.
Since Frank spent most of the journey leafing through various scrolls, once past the murky smog of industry on the outskirts of London, Joshua was content to gaze out at the leafless winter countryside, allowing impressions to form in his mind’s eye.
Frank was still far from well, so it was understandable he found the journey arduous, retiring to his chamber after the evening meal at an inn.
