Chapter 4Joshua’s timely intervention set the pattern for the following few weeks. It wasn’t entirely satisfactory, but it was better than nothing. He consoled himself that Frank seemed willing to have him close and had not jettisoned their relationship altogether. Even if they didn’t have the chance to converse, at least Joshua slept in the comfort of Frank’s arms for a few nights a week. He got into the habit of stealing out of Frank’s rooms in the early morning, leaving him to sleep. Then it was home to Gerrard Street and breakfast with Uncle Samuel and his family before putting in a full day in the studio on St. Martin’s Lane. At least, now the Little Season was coming to a close, and the upper classes started to retire to their country estates for the winter, the evenings at the club
