His flame is very outstanding in terms of power. The basis of his powers are his pure emotions, however it varies whether it will flow on the positive side or the negative side. In Ylgaea, affinities can be manipulated based on the caster’s emotions. If one is prideful enough to carry anger and hate towards someone, then their affinity will proceed towards the negative side. In the negative side, there are instances where it may lead into uncontrollable power, giving you your demise or if you’re lucky enough, just a consequence. On the other side, if one holds the emotion of love and care for their peers, then their affinity will proceed towards the positive side, giving them endless possibilities to progress further or reach their limit and extend it at their own will.
We all desire the power to protect someone we love. May the affinity given to you be darkness or light if you desire the best then your power shall proceed to an extent that you can protect your loved ones. Johann’s flames were giving the same progress. Although it may look in his eyes that he dwells the prideful part in his life, I can see it through him that his power dwells the positive emotions of care and love for his peers and close ones. Maybe this inspiration is enough to give him the power to incinerate his opponent’s crystal in just a blink of an eye.
His opponent can merely move. He is stuck in his place which his eyes narrowly open. He stares at Johann with awe and a smile on his face. He seems to be fascinated by Johann’s capabilities.
“The rumours are true after all. The leader of Lightshades will and will always be the glorious in the end.” he said as he closes his eyes, consciousness fading entirely.
A group of medics came and immediately carried the person. Johann looked back into his members and smiled at them, giving them the glorious feat. He slowly walks towards them as Dio announces the next round.
There were bunch of series of rounds that narrowed that count of the factions up unto 6. The remaining factions obviously included us, the Lightshades, Volant Argonauts, Prominent Enigmas and two others that I still have not memorized the name.
I stare blankly on the remaining groups in the battlefield. They all carry this astounding amount of concentrated energy that livingly proves they are worthy to be standing here in the battlefield. In those series of rounds I have never been chosen to fight. There were repetitive rounds which included Diether but Elio and I were both left out of the group. I guess we both saved ourselves from being exposed – not that we’re any other special participants – but I can feel the curiosity of the remaining groups about me and Elio. Some of them were completely staring at us with wondering faces and wandering thoughts. I can tell exactly why some of them are looking at us.
However it is time for Elio to join the battlefield.
“Midnight Shootout with Edgeseekers and Prudent Orcas.” Dio announced.
I did not change my reaction. I remained as calm as I can to process this event.
Elio started walking towards his position and so did his opponent. One of the things I should expect from his opponent is that he possesses water affinity. It should be no doubt as every member of Prudent Orcas exposed themselves using water affinity. However, we have not seen this guy’s affinity yet.
In their past matches, almost all of the members of Prudent Orcas dwells water affinity. They use it from Crystal Vanguard to Fortress Defense however I have not yet seen this guy’s affinity. I am expecting him to use water affinity but my thought might completely play with me as there is no exact reason to why would they make him play in the latter part of the event.
As Dio counts up to three, multiple shining lights appeared on top of us. I guess those are what Elio was telling us “stars” that they have to eliminate. In Midnight Shootout, the player with the highest amounts of starts eliminated will win and shall proceed on the next round. Judging Elio’s past performances in the battlefield, his accuracy is the best to par in this battle mode.
His opponent is doing exactly nothing while Elio on the other side started chanting. Elio’s variant is living things, therefore I will not expect him to use guns in this mode which made me wonder what could possibly Elio do in this situation.
In a matter of seconds after chanting, he summoned fireflies near to each and every star that is in the field. So his plan is to eliminate them entirely by summoning his affinity beside them. A very good tactic if you will ask me. Since accuracy is the best strategy in this game, you must be good in shootouts and positioning. Elio positioned his fireflies really well that he did not even bother counting the stars. All he did was summon fireflies beside every star, ignoring the number of stars that are in the field.
In a few seconds, the fireflies started exploding, eliminating completely the stars beside them and the stars that are caught in the range of the small explosions. Elio immediately gained about 50 points from it while his opponent stares with a smirk at him.
It seems rather odd that his opponent would do nothing while the fact that the Prudent Orcas are near being removed from the games still exists. Elio did not bother knowing and trying to figure out what his opponent will try to do, all he has done is summon fireflies beside each and every star.
I knew something is off.
Elio’s opponent immediately radiated a dark aura around him. The aura is scattered like it is totally not focused. Based from what I am seeing, his aura possesses the negative path of concentration, making his powers very uncontrollable in terms of keeping them together. The aura is everywhere the whole battlefield, it is not as much as Johann can emit but it is enough to suffocate a person from overwhelming energies. His opponent still has this devilish smile in him as Elio blocks all the radiating black energy with his mere arms.
“What on earth is he doing?” I heard Elio speak.
It seems like he is trying to scatter around his energy so he can manipulate them easily from far ranges. It is one hell of a strategy if you would ask me. His opponent might possibly not be good in accuracy which is probably why he just released his energy into the open-air vaguely and inconsistently. There is a flaw in this method of his, which I figured will sooner come into action.
He started creating explosions everywhere his energy had scattered, ignoring completely if he might actually hit others that are not fighting him.
“Art of Impartial Darkness: Exploding Aura!” he casted.
He still wears that freakish devil smile in him while knowing that he might actually hit everyone in his current state. He ignored that fact and continued the explosion. What I was expecting is that he would actually hit everyone, but what ended up is that the energy focused exactly on one point, which I did not calculate at all.
Elio is at risk.
The explosions were all focused on him, the auras immediately swoop towards Elio as they explode, majorly damaging Elio.
“What is that?!” I shouted from afar.
The person at fault looked at me with his smile. I glared at him completely as I think of what to do, however we are not allowed to help our allies and besides, I was late. I saw Elio with his knees on the ground badly wounded and bleeding, his face looking downwards. Some parts of him were shaking while others remained frozen.
“That’s illegal!” I heard someone from afar shouted.
I immediately glanced towards the source of the voice; it was Johann from the Lightshades. I saw him with his fierce face shouting and proclaiming unfairness in the battlefield. However, there is no rule about harming your opponents, thus explaining that Elio’s opponent’s moves were completely legal.
This is very unfair and a total crap, the main point of the game is to accumulate points by eliminating stars, not by making your opponents completely defenseless.
But he did manage to earn some points during that explosion. He earned for about 80 points, 10 points greater than Elio had accumulated yet Elio is on the floor with his knees.
I thought Elio was completely down but just on his knees, but I felt his energy pulsating more than before. His concentration level arose, sky-rocketing from the lowest to the top-level. Purple energy started revolving around him, almost uncontrollable but Elio is managing them really well.
“Dirty tricks are not enough to destroy me.” he said
“That just explains how fools play.” he continued.
He tries getting up with all his strength left as he continue gathering the energy around him, pulsating more and more just how his affinity radiates. After a second of him trying to get up, the pulsating energy immediately went out.
Elio looked at his opponent with the will of winning.
“Total Suppression Art of Moonlight: The Ascendance of the Moon God, Elvis!” he casted.
This is the first time that I have seen Elio’s total suppression art. We have been in countless battles but this is actually the first time of me seeing it physically. I wouldn’t mind seeing it at first, but right after it appeared in front of me, my knees started to tremble and my chest suddenly feels so heavy. I have seen something I did not expect to see right in front of me.
It is either just Elio’s copy of the real one, but it still is a god, the moon god precisely. I just saw the face of the Moon God Elvis.
“Don’t get fooled by that spell.”
I glanced at Diether.
“Elvis is not an actual god here in Ylgaea.” he explained.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“Elvis might be a god, but he does not physically exist here in Ylgaea.” he explained.
“He lives in another world, another dimension, just like Ylgaea. Elvis is an elf, a god, a deity, the creator of the moon but not in Ylgaea.”
I was left in awe with Diether’s explanation.
“How could you know these things?” I asked him.
“You will possess this knowledge if you possess the affinity itself. But since you are a god yourself, the knowledge will start from you, history will start from you and shall go on as you progress.” he told me.
Beyond the unexpected fact that I have just known, I looked back at Elio. His total suppression lets him call upon a god from another world. It is really must be a total suppression. Total Suppressions are spells capable of eliminating an entire country if possible. If calling a god would be your total suppression art, then I guess you can eliminate more than just a country, but thousands of countries.
Elvis stands straightly in front of Elio. This is not the actual god but it possesses the power of the god itself. Elvis looked at Elio’s opponent with a serious face.
“Hmp. Pathetic.” I heard it say.
Elio went on the ground again with his knees.
“Do not falter my child, this I tell you; it is not yet your demise.” Elvis said.
Elvis aimed his hands in front of him right at where their opponent is.
“Moonlight Judgement.” Elvis calmly casted.
All of the stars started shaking and more light-affinity monsters started gathering in the hill. It seems like Elvis had caught the attention of these monsters. Nevertheless, the stars started vanishing one after another, and his opponent is stunned completely. It looks like his opponent is blinded by something we cannot see, which might also be the reason why the stars around them are quickly vanishing, giving Elio the points swiftly. Just as how his concentration gathered up, his point sky-rocketed with no ease. It immediately increases until the very end of the round where he accomplished more than a thousand points. Elvis faded into the air slowly. I saw him looking at me.
“I shall see you again, my friend.” he formally said as he completely vanished in the air.
What possible could be the relationship of me as a deity here in Ylgaea to him as a god in another world? How many worlds could possibly be there that there are gods and deities from another world? I can’t seem to gather these clues up as much as I want to process them immediately.
Diether and I immediately rushed towards Elio who is about to fall on his knees again while on the other side, his opponent remained silent, reddish as he still has this fear inside him that he could not understand.
I looked at Elio with a smile saying, “You did a really great job there Elio. Thank you.”
He smiled back at me and Diether, “We are a team, and we will win this together.”
His eyes slowly close but his smile remains. The medic team walked towards us and brought Elio in a rest bed. Diether and I went back to our positions we listen back to Dio.
“That is a very outstanding fight! Now, what should be the next round and who shall be the fighters?” Dio said.
The holographic screen on top of us started showing random words again and in an instant, I suddenly felt the pressure back again.
“This one is rather odd.” Dio said.
How could this possibly be? I tend to ask myself.
