​Wind screamed in Selene’s ears as she plunged through absolute darkness. ​The subterranean altar, the black-cloaked hunters, and Elder William's cold laughter vanished above her, swallowed by the collapsing mountain. Jagged stone fragments whistled past her in the freefall, but the icy panic in her chest wasn't for the impending impact—it was for Kael. ​"Kael!" she screamed, her voice tearing against the rushing air. ​A burst of blinding golden light erupted a few yards below her. Kael’s body, surrounded by the swirling, dark tendrils of the Shadow Hand, was tumbling wildly through the abyss.
