They walked in comfortable silence as they left the main tent. It wasn’t until after they’d gone past the trailers and were noticeably leaving the campground that Kai finally spoke.
“Where are we going?”
“To get your father a watermelon.”
“Out here?”
Toby snorted. “We usually keep a few around for the elephants. They love them.” Seeing her excitement rise, he added, “Giff told me you were wanting to work with the animals. When you’re ready, I can take you over to where the ponies are tied up.”
“Actually, I would rather work with the elephants…if that’s okay.”
Toby inwardly grimaced. “Well, it’s not really my decision, or Darius’s decision to make.”
