Questions
Kai screamed as pieces of glass blew inward, showering her and Mrs. Beckwith. Trying to avoid the onslaught, they threw themselves onto the floor and covered their heads with their arms. Even as she hunched over, Kai felt tiny pinpricks hitting her bare flesh as the window disintegrated.
They barely had the chance to recover from the assault when they heard a banging on the trailer’s door, and Beckwith shouted out to them.
“Maisie! Kai! Are you all right? Open this door!”
Kai heard another voice, a familiar voice, come through the window the same time the interior was bathed in the light of a flashlight.
“I can see ‘em! They’re moving!” Toby called out.
