Chapter Eight As they traveled deeper into the forest, Una found it difficult to keep her eyes on Zurburt. He blended in with the forest floor so perfectly. After nearly squashing him a second time, Una crouched down and offered him her left hand, palm up. He looked at her, blinked, and then climbed on. Every so often, he corrected her course, but in the main it was the better arrangement for both. Una’s thoughts wandered to the cottage as she walked. She wondered if Zurburt would lead her back and if it was safe to do so. Thinking of this reminded her of the toad’s preferred method of travel. That would explain why there are so few toads in the city, she thought. There aren’t enough trees to get you from one part of town to another. Una smiled, and, distracted, she tripped on a root jutt
