10: Leave of Absence WHITE REMAINED IN THE interview room mulling his situation. He thought back to what had happened and how surreal it felt to him. He rested his head on the table trying to slow his mind down. It was racing with things he must do. In between ideas of must-dos, images and scent of Ruby intruded his senses. He knew she was gone, but he couldn’t accept it. She was gone before he had the chance to realise what she really meant to him. It wasn’t fair, but he hadn’t been fair to her, either.
