Chapter 3 : Jungle of Peril 2

"Welcome to WIC Company!” A woman's voice came from the microphone above the door. "Can you state your name?" She sounded like a robot. "My name is Jane." "Thank you, Jane. Let me check your name on our list. Please wait a moment!” The atmosphere suddenly became silent. Jane felt something was wrong with this place, but she didn't know what. “Sorry, the system does not have a participant named Jane. Please leave this location as soon as possible!" "Wait … wait! That’s impossible. I received an email from WIC Company. My name is Jane - Jane White!" "Access granted!" The double doors slowly opened. Jane breathed a sigh of relief. As soon as the door opened, it turned out that there were already many teenagers her age there. Most of them seemed indifferent to Jane's arrival. One thing Jane realized, this room was made with comfortable decorations and was very different from the outside, which was messy and rusty. The sofas and tables looked brand new. Clean floors and walls, and soundproofing that covered every inch of the room walls. 'What is their purpose?' Jane said to herself. Suddenly, a large virtual screen appeared in front of them. On the screen, a woman with blonde hair appeared. She looked more like artificial intelligence, rather than a human. Everyone who saw her would think that the woman was the system. "Thank you all for your presence. WIC Company is a high-tech gaming company. We focus on software development. We invite you all to participate in a software trial that we will release next year. You are one of fifty candidates selected to participate in this competition. You will participate in the game according to our procedures. There will only be one selected winner. The participant who can fight to the end and defeat other competitors will receive a prize of $1,000,000." All the teenagers cheered. They didn't expect that the invitation was not a scam and thought this was a once-in-a-lifetime luck. Not only competing for a big prize, but they also just need to play a game. I mean, what teenager doesn't like games? "For those of you who want to withdraw from this game, we will allow you to leave this location right now." You will not be able to exit the game if you have entered the competition. I will give you five minutes to make a decision." The double doors opened automatically. They exchanged glances. Some people whispered to each other. Of course, who would want to miss a competition with such a big prize? "The time is up. We assume that you agree. Please enter the room." The double doors closed, and another large door inside the room opened. It turned out to be an elevator with a spacious room. Everyone got in, and the elevator doors started to close. The elevator slowly descended, taking them to a place that was certainly far underground. The elevator stopped after a few minutes and opened again. They were shown a room that was much larger and neater. Almost everything in the room was made of aluminum and iron. At some points, people in military uniforms were on guard with firearms. It turns out this place is heavily guarded. A beautiful woman in her thirties approached them. She wore natural makeup and wore a purple wig that matched the color of her blazer. Making her look neat and professional. She didn't come alone but with two military uniformed men behind her. They were also armed with long-barreled weapons. "Hello, kids! Welcome to WIC Company.” she greeted with a smile, "Let me introduce myself. My name is Katrine Smith. I will be your guide during the competition. Remember! You must obey our rules,” she said firmly, while staring sharply at them one by one. As if it was a strict rule, “Come on, I'll take you around,” she said with a smile again. She smiled as she walked ahead of them. Meanwhile, the two soldiers stood upright on the right and left sides of the teenagers. Until the last teenager, they both followed her. They went down the stairs. There were three corridors, they entered the far right corridor. Mrs. Katy took a card from her pocket. Jane watched what the woman was doing. Mrs. Katy attached the card to a metal plate near the door. Not long after, the door opened. There were many other doors lined up there. Each door has a unique number. The row of even-numbered doors is on the right, and the row of odd-numbered doors is on the left, with a total of fifty rooms. "This is your room, feel free to choose any bed you like. Alright, guys! Have a great night," said Mrs. Katy as they were about to leave. "Miss, may I know when the game will start?" asked Corrine. Mrs. Katy turned around with a grin. "Soon."
