Alpha Damon’s POV It was barely light when I opened my eyes, though I doubted I had truly slept at all. I sat in the chair beside the bed and watched Spurn sleep. In sleep, some of the fear loosened from her face. She looked younger. Softer. Almost peaceful. The sight should have comforted me, but it only made the ache in my chest worse because peace was still new to her, fragile enough to shatter if the wrong voice sounded outside my door. I did not want to wake her. I wanted to let her have every second of rest, this rotten pack had stolen from her. Still, the Mating Ball would begin at noon, and before this day ended, Spurn would be leaving Moon Howlers with me no matter who tried to stop us. I opened the link to Jacob.
