Call off the wedding

1553 Words
The last day of the year soon to be ended, Lily finally made so many plans for her and her fiance, Rudolf, for their honeymoon trip. Their wedding day was coming near and Lily couldn't hide her excitement. The date was also going to be their 10th year anniversary altogether.  She already got two ticket for both of them to Maldives for their honeymoon. The sun kisses bath and white sands were incredibly amusing things to be dreaming off. She smiled ear to ear while thinking about the romance that would be in the air between them. It was going to be the perfect time for them. She looked at the clock which hanging on the wall. It was 04.30 p.m. It still got a half hour to go to clock-off the time. She decided to send Rudolf a message to meet her after work. It was so rare for her job as senior journalist in the online news media to go home on time. But this time, she wanted to spend the New Year's eve with his fiance"Babe, where are you? Let's meet tonight at 7. Let's eat Italian at the restaurant in the intersection. Can we? ^^" Message : Delivered  Message : Read "I'm working overtime, Babe. There is something wrong with the electricity generators. If not being handled immediately, it's going to be blackout all over the city." He replied it so fast. Then he sent another message  "And where are you now? When will you go home?" Lily replied him in seconds. "I think I'll also continue my work. Probably I'll be home at 10." The message turned into blue double checks as the sign that the message had already read by Rudolf. "Okay. Take care. Ganbatteee, my sweetheart. Love you" Lily was amazed with the message her fiance sent. She adored him so much for this 10 years. Even after almost a decade being altogether, she still got butterflies for his sweet gestures and messages. Something small like "love you" could make her heart skipped the beat. She blushed and read the message once again. It was so addictive to her. Rudolf was senior technician in a multinational electricity company. He worked hard and for Lily, he was more than enough to be her lifetime partner. Both Lily and Rudolf were hard workers and he supported her fully even for her dream to be journalist. All people would know that journalists even had no enough time for themselves, but Rudolf still loved her just the way she was. So at the time like these, she didn't mind at all if he would work overtime.  She put her phone back on the desk and continued her work until the clock-off time. --------- She was so immersed to her work until she forgot the time. It turned out that she was the last person in the room who didn't come home yet in the New Year's eve and it was already 8 P.M. She definitely loved her work. But sometimes, hardworking could be like a disease. It could disconnect you from outer real world. For that reason, she was a bit guilty to herself and packed her things and put it in her bag immediately. All of sudden, but as usual, she felt hungry. Her body needed a proper nutrition after a long work time. A perfect nutrition for the time : A pint of beer and fried chicken at the bar on her apartment's top level. She grinned ear to ear. Then she left office right after that.  -------------- Lily's apartment complex was in the same building with a big mall. She was in the 26th level and the mall in the lower level. It felt like she could go shopping every day and every time she wanted because it only took "downstairs" to go to mall.  Although it was only a studio room, but it was her own apartment legally. It was the fruit of her hardworking days to do so many jobs simultaneously.  She opened many online shops and earned thousand dollars each and way much more than she earned from her journalist job. No one from her office who knew it except her bestie, Fossantine. She was staying as journalist because she loved journalistic. She loved reporting the news and got public informed with the latest phenomenon. But she knew that she would never get all she had that time, if she was only a journalist. So she put so much effort to it. She arrived at the parking lot and went to the bar directly. The bar probably had just opened. Then she turned around and went to 26th level and went to her room. She took a shower. After taking a quick shower, she dried her hair in front of her dressing table. At first she just dried it as usual, until when she took a glance, she looked at a blue pack of condom fell near her dresser. She put her hair dryer on the table and moved closer into her dresser. These time, the pack was opened.  She clearly remembered that it had been a week since the last time she met Rudolf. Her heart skipped a beat. Thousands of feeling and overthinking was filled her brain.  She denied that creepy thoughts. "Rudolf is not that bad guy. It's impossible to do it!" She just shook her head in disbelief and tried to get it off her mind. ------ Days had passed since she found that empty condom pack, Rudolf and Lily decide to take a dinner together at Lily's favorite Italian Restaurant. Rudolf smiled more than usual. He even bought her a bouquet of red rose for her. His smile was bright and Lily still acted like usual in front of her fiance. But it was so hard for Lily not to talk about what happened few days ago in front of Rudolf. She just bit her tongue and said nothing. -------- Her guts said different things. She knew that something was amiss with Rudolf. But she couldn't say the words for she was afraid if it was true. This time, she made up plans. She told Rudolf that her close relative in her hometown was severe sick and her parents needed her help. "Babe, I'm going to go to my hometown. Aunt Kelly is sick. Mom and Dad needs my help." Message : Delivered Seconds after it delivered, it was read. Rudolf typing... "What a bummer. Why all of sudden? Should I come with you? Probably your parents needs more hands to help them. Lily got butterflies but she didn't want her heart moved first without her getting the truth. "No, I think I'll go alone now. It would be a hassle for you to leave office for days like that." She sent the message. Suddenly, Fossa approached her and asked "What's wrong, Lily? Does something happen?" Lily was a bit surprised but she told her the same lies. "I want to go home. Aunt Kelly is sick." Fossa looked worry. But then she just stroke Lily's back and said words of encouragement "Take care, Lily. Hope you aunt get well soon." Fossa smiled nicely as usual. Lily felt a bit guilty to make lies to her besties like that. But the plan had to be perfect. Lily left the office an hour before lunch break to make it convincing. -------- Lily decided to rent a room in nearby hotel so it would look like she was absence and went to her hometown already. She received another message from Rudolf again in the evening. "Have you already arrived at home baby? How long will you be there? I'm gonna miss you so much! :(" Lily smirked. Somehow, deep down in her heart, a disbelief in him grew bigger but she acted and sent the message like usual. ":( Ikr, (I know right), I'll stay here for 5 days until Aunt Kelly gets any better." She sent it and Rudolf replied her as fast as possible. She knew it was not right. But she had to move at night and saw what happened. ------- She got back to her apartment as soon as the night come. It was already 8 p.m.  She sneak into her own apartment like a burglar. It was dark but the light was on the bed area. She knew it!  It was Rudolf and another woman! They were naked and frozen as they looked at Lily. Not long after, they looked ashamed. Two packs of condom were already opened as if they already did that more than once. Rudolf's face was quite shocked.  He hooked up with another woman and cheated on her on her own apartment. The worst thing of all : the shameless woman who laid beside Rudolf was Fossantine, her bestie. Broken hearted, shocked, and rage turned Lily's eyes blinded. She still couldn't believe that her fiance for ten years would betray her with her best friend. They were definitely traitors. They tore her hearts into peace. She wept. She pushed Fossa and Rudolf from the bed. She threw their clothes at them and kicked them out. She called of the wedding right away. Her "loving" fiance for ten years turned out to be "disloyal" jerk who betrayed her love and trust.
