Both of them stayed in place as per the officer’s orders. There was nowhere else to go, and the closest stairs were being blocked by the group.
They both took a peek at their side. There is no way they’d survive the fall if they jump from that height. Also, there weren’t any trees nearby to grab hold of.
“Hands where I can see them!”
One of the individual’s shout, having noticed how they eyed some parts of the place. It’s clear they were trying to find a means of escape, which caused all the of the group to raise their weapons at them.
There were about seven of them, all carrying the same logo of a golden shield and black fatigue uniform.
“What are we going to do?”
Max mumbles, shivering in fear and panic upon realizing who the people were. From their clothing, he was sure it was the local police department. Which means they’d end up in a lot of trouble if they were to get caught.
“Just do what they say.”
Spartacus threw him a wide grin, which showed his perfectly white teeth. He playfully moved his brows as he followed the orders.
Raising both his hands, he placed them at the back of his head, together with opening both his legs, to show he was cooperating.
“Border patrol, report.
A static voice came from one of the officer’s radio.
The man who seems to be the leader was quick to take it, while the others surrounded them.
“We have two suspicious individuals on the wall. I repeat, we have a possible illegal immigrants crossing.”
He answers, keeping his sights on the lads as they approached. The group was cautious, making sure they move on different sides, all the while securing the path as much.
“My dad’s going to kill me when he finds out about this.”
Max groans, following his friend’s lead.
He ended up lowering his head in sheer embarrassment, recognizing the people who were moving closer to them.
The leader of the group signaled his hand for them to halt, his face creasing, eyes narrowing, upon taking a better look at him.
“Max! Is that you?”
The guy shouts, receding in shock. His brows rising as he lowered his weapon a bit, after getting a much clearer view of him.
It felt like an entire bucket of ice cold water fell on him, hearing his name get called out. So, forcing a smile, he slowly lifts his face to them.
“Hello there, deputy Klyde.”
He greets, putting on the sweetest and most modest expression he can muster.
All the individuals who were pointing their weapons at him were quick to lower their guard, shaking their heads when they confirmed it was him.
Though the others remained wary of his friend, they all seem to have gotten relaxed, seeing as they were only a bunch of teenagers.
“What the hell are you doing here? This is a restricted area.”
The officer heaved a sigh. His tone was heavy, filled with disappointment upon catching him there.
Yet, he didn’t have any excuse for it. Except, of course, his curiosity. Also, their attention immediately shifted to the other guy as he snorts, trying to hold on to his laughter.
“I wonder why?”
Spartacus mumbles, letting out a bit of a chuckle when their eyes met.
All the officers who were there were quick to point their weapon at his friend. As they no longer worried about him.
“Who’s this with you?”
Deputy Klyde asks. Gaze turning sharply towards his companion.
Of course, no one would know about him, since the fellow only moved there about a day ago, and hasn’t even gotten acquainted with anyone yet.
“He’s my schoolmate. He recently transferred here.”
Max took it upon himself to introduce the guy. As to avoid any further complications. Also, he’d rather not put his friend in jeopardy, all because he was an unfamiliar person. Since he knew how damaging and painful those tasers, they were carrying.
“I’ll still need to see some identification.”
The deputy puts on a stern face towards him, fixing his hat before returning his gaze to the other individual.
Max’s attention went to his friend upon hearing him whistle.
“Hey, which category do you think they fall into? Are they Al, Be, or Om?”
Spartacus’ grin grew wider, making his brow move up and down in a teasing manner as he chuckled.
“I’m sure this isn’t the time for that!”
He snaps behind gritted teeth, as he was trying to keep his smile up.
With the trouble they were in. He can’t help but get agitated, perceiving the earful he’d receive from his father. Not just that, he was now panicking, knowing he had let down his old man once more.
“Hey! I said I need to see some an I.D.”
Deputy Kyle shouts again. This time, his tone was much deeper and more authoritative. His weapons were shaking while signaling the guy to move.
But the threat did not seem to faze Spartacus, shrugging his shoulders as he rolled his eyes at him with a teasing smirk.
“Sure, officer, but are you positive you want me to put down my hands?”
The lad feigned an innocent expression, his voice mimicking a child to not sound too hostile.
“What are you doing?”
Max glared at his friend, realizing his actions.
Since they were already suspicious of him, he was certain they’d get more annoyed if he kept acting that way.
“Proving to you, I’m telling the truth.”
Spartacus murmured, giving him a quick wink before grinning at the group.
It caused the officers’ face to become sour, making their gaze sharper, knowing they were being mocked by the fellow.
“Turn around and put them behind your back!”
The Deputy quickly orders.
And again, the lad did not show any ounce of retaliation, as he followed like an obedient child.
“All right, smarty pants. You ask for this.”
Another officer grumbles, smirking as he took out a cable tie from his backpack. With that, they all surrounded the guy, making sure they were far enough to shoot their weapons, but not too close for him to grab any of them.
“Move aside, Max. You don’t want to get into any more trouble.”
Klyde waves his hand to make him withdraw as they hovered around his friend. Two of them were now holding his arms, while another prepared the loop for the knot.
Of course, Max also complied. Not wanting to add up to his increasing crimes. They were already deep in it, as is. Being caught in such a place. And the worst part is, he was aware the area was a no-go zone, as his father had reminded him a hundred times whenever he’d asked about it.
His mind was racing, thinking of all the believable excuses he can say to get out of that predicament. Should he lie or tell the truth? Which would be better and would garner more merit.
Also, he was readying himself for his dad’s wrath and punishment, knowing he would not avoid this one.
“You want me to take off my shirt, just to be sure I’m not hiding anything?”
Spartacus says, grabbing hold on to the hem of his clothing the moment he saw that all seven officers had surrounded him.
His words got Max’s attention, not because it was an awkward proposal, but because of how the group reacted to it.
They all suddenly froze, looking at one another with meaningful and salacious eyes. Beads of sweat began rolling down their foreheads, making them swallow hard at the suggestion.
