Philippe stripped the dirty, sweaty clothes from his body and deposited them in the corner of the chamber for the servants to take care of later. He went to the basin and splashed water on his face, and he wondered if he would be able to get to sleep at all, with the day’s events buzzing around his brain like a swarm of angry wasps. However, as soon as he lay down, he fell into a deep sleep. Philippe sat up suddenly in bed, his ephemeral dreams evaporating quickly. The room was dark.
