The night pressed heavy.
Jae-min stared at the ceiling, his eyes wide, every nerve awake. Joon-ho lay still beside him, breathing calm and deep. Their hands were still touchingâbarely.
Jae-min couldâve pulled away hours ago.
But he didnât.
And neither did Joon-ho.
02:47 AM
A sharp cry tore through the silence.
Jae-min jolted upright, gasping for air, hands shaking. The images from the dreamâblood, screams, a gun pointed at his faceâflashed behind his eyes.
He couldnât breathe.
âJae-min.â
The bed shifted.
A hand gripped his wristâstrong, steady.
âJae-min. Look at me.â
Joon-hoâs voice was close, deep, gentle. That was new.
Jae-min turned to him, wide-eyed, his chest rising too fast.
âIt was just a dream,â Joon-ho said.
âIt... it felt real,â Jae-min whispered. âSomeone grabbed me in it. And said they were coming for me.â
His voice cracked. Joon-hoâs grip tightenedânot painfully. Firmly. Assuring.
âNo oneâs coming for you,â Joon-ho said. âNot while Iâm here.â
Jae-min blinked at him, the room spinning less now.
âYou always this comforting to your clients?â he asked, voice raw.
Joon-hoâs eyes didnât move. âNo. They usually donât need it. And I usually donât care.â
âThen why now?â
A pause.
âYouâre different,â Joon-ho said. âYou make too much noise in silence.â
Jae-min let out a breathless laugh.
He didn't realize he was crying until Joon-hoâs thumb brushed under his eye.
Soft. Careful. Like he was afraid to break him.
Their faces were inches apart.
âYou donât have to act like stone all the time,â Jae-min whispered.
âAnd you donât have to act like fire.â
Another pause.
Their eyes locked.
And suddenly, the air between them didnât feel safe anymore. It felt hot.
Jae-min leaned closer, slow, testing. Joon-ho didnât stop him. Didnât move. Didnât breathe.
His lips hovered just near Joon-hoâs. Close enough to count heartbeats.
And just when he was about to close the distanceâ
Joon-ho pulled away.
âGo to sleep,â he said, voice tight.
âCoward,â Jae-min whispered.
âTemptation,â Joon-ho replied.
Jae-min stared at his back as Joon-ho turned away from him.
But his hand stayed on Jae-minâs wrist.
And didnât let go.
