Author’s Note
While the Great Storm of 1900 is a historic event, I have taken some fictional liberties in this novel. I have tried as best I can to keep true to what is known about those characters who lived through this catastrophic hurricane, including their lives before and their actions during the storm. I have altered some aspects of history, such as who performed an action or having certain characters interact, to move the story along at a faster pace and allow Alfred to remain the focus of the novel. In this way, I hope I have given those who lived through the storm a voice and represented their stories in such a way as to show not only their tremendous strength but the harrowing experience they shared.
