I have been standing in the front of the mirror for a long time now, examining myself. I don't know why the heck am I nervous? I mean it’s not like I am going to meet a guy for the first time, Nate and I have been dating for almost a year and a half now. We started dating when we were fifteen, I smiled remembering how we met and how scared he was to ask me out we were so shy back then. He is so sweet, caring, and nice and is very cute too.
Jake knocked on my door and came in.“Are you ready? We have to leave soon so hurry up. We can't be late.” He said, I nodded and he left.
Jake and I have the house to ourselves for a few days. Dad travels for his work frequently and there are a few days at a stretch leaving me alone with Jake and Aiden off course. Dad is going to cut down his touring to spend more time with us which means I won't be left alone with two hippies. Aiden and Jake have been best friends since they both were in diapers. Aiden and I don't get along very well; we argue, fight and do not agree on anything. Even if I try to be nice to him it doesn't last long because he gets to me some way or the other. But I wouldn't change that because that’s us, we are different.
I shook my head; forget about Aiden, I should think of Nate. He was out of town for a couple of days and will be back today in two-three hours. I have to reach at least an hour before him to get everything ready. I have missed him so much; I am going to surprise him by being at his house and arranging a dinner or something. Ok, I have not thought it through it but something will definitely pop in my brilliant mind, I at least hope for it.
“Mia, if you don’t come down in next five minutes, we are leaving without you," Jake shouted from downstairs.
I frowned and looked in the mirror one last time. My red dress is fitting me perfectly showing off my curves nicely. I have pulled my long black hair which reaches my waist into a high ponytail and have used minimum make-up which is making my green eyes stand out. I look good. I straightened my dress and walked out of the room grabbing my clutch on the way. I made my way downstairs and saw Jake frown the minute he saw me.
“I think you should change. The dress is way too short.” Jake commented. I smiled at him sweetly and shook my head.
He snorted and walked away. My dress is not too short it reaches till my mid thigh. Its almost full length for the kind of girls Jake is used to having around him. He is not a player but is getting there soon. He has dark hair just like me but he is so much taller and broader than me. He looks like my dad and I look like my mom. I went into the lounge and saw Aiden sitting on the couch watching TV, his eyes lit up when he saw me.
“Wow, you look hot, come sit next to me.” He said smirking at me and checking me out. Yeah right, I look hot he is just crazy. I would say I look good enough.
“Shut up Aiden. You are so annoying.” I said and walked into the kitchen to take a bottle of water. I heard Aiden catching up with me.
“Come on, we both know that not true. No girl can resist me and that includes you.” He said leaning on the counter watching me.
I rolled my eyes. "In your dreams, Aiden.” I replied and he chuckled. Why can't he be nice to me for sometime in a day? I have got used to this and honestly think its fun.
“In yours too.” He said and winked at me. Umm, I can't think of a smart ass reply to that so I rolled my eyes again.
It has always been like this with us. We have had a love-hate relationship. I know I can count on him if I need anything but that doesn't mean I don't hate him at times. He lives right next door but he spends most of his time here. Aiden can be really sweet when he wants to like when my mom was ill before she passed he always looked after me and Jake trying to cheer us up or just being there when anyone of us needed him. I cried on his shoulder so many times and he always held me and tried to calm me down. We always argue about everything, one minute we are giggling with each other next we are shouting.
I removed a bottle of water from the fridge, turned around and walked right into someone, Aiden. He put his hands on my waist to steady me. I hate it sometimes that he is taller and stronger than me. He is 6’3, muscular not overly but just right. I looked up to see him smile at me; his real smile, not his stupid smirk. His blonde hair was messy on the top and little short at the sides. He has this amazing ocean blue eyes which I l would love to have, they are so deep. What the hell is wrong with me? I am thinking about his eyes, I must have bumped my head somewhere today.
“ You look really nice today Mia.” He said softly looking into my eyes and I knew he meant it just by the tone he used.
I blushed and looked away. His hands were still around my waist making sparks shoot throughout my body. Aiden suddenly lets go of me and took a step back. Jake came in the kitchen muttering something under his breath, he looked at us and then shook his head and picked up his car keys from the counter and started walking towards the door.
“Let's go little sis.” He said over his shoulder. I nodded and walked behind him with Aiden by my side the whole way.
I got into the backseat and stared out of the window. I can’t believe I actually liked being close to Aiden and didn’t make any efforts to move away from him and I blushed. No way, I have a boyfriend who I love a lot beside any girl would blush if Aiden complimented her, I mean he is totally hot and he knows it. Mia, Aiden is not hot and you are losing your mind.
I sighed. “Jake don't wait up for me. I might stay over or ask Nate to give me a ride home, ok?” I asked and waited for his answer.
“I prefer the second option.” He commented and I rolled my eyes. “Let me know if you need anyone of us to pick you up.” He said.
“Okay, I will.” I said and rested my head on the headrest. Jake and Aiden started talking about the party they were going to and how epic it is going to be.
Finally, we reached Nate's house and I got out of the car quickly. “Eager much?” Aiden asked with his traditional smirk back on his face.
“Yes, very.” I replied to him with a smirk and his eyes went wide. I winked at him but then he looked worried or sad. Why sad? Whats wrong with me? But then his smirk was back like it never left his face.
He rearranged his expression quickly. “Don't miss me too much. Bye Mia.” He said and they both drove away.
I removed the extra key from the welcome mat in front of Nate's house, opened the door and kept the key back in its place. It is so dark inside; of course, no one is home I can be stupid at times. I looked around in the kitchen and cooked a little something for both of us and lighted some candles around just to create a romantic atmosphere. I switched off all the lights and managed to sit on the couch at least I think its a couch without falling flat on my ass or getting hurt. I can be very clumsy.
After a while, I heard the front door opening and I stood up quickly. I have not seen him for last two days, I missed him a lot. I am so happy that he is finally back; I hope he has missed me too. He switched the lights on and looked at me shocked clearly not expecting me to be here. “Surprise,” I mumbled throwing my hands in the air dramatically.
He then smiled at me and within seconds I was in his arms. He hugged me tightly and I clinked to him. I pulled away to look at his face, his blonde hair was set properly and his grey eyes were shining with excitement. He stroked my cheek lovingly and kissed my forehead. “I missed you a lot.” He said.
I smiled happily knowing even he missed me. “I missed you too. I am so glad your back.” I said happily. “You hungry?” he nodded. I took his hand and pulled him with me to his backyard.
He looked at the set table with food on it, the candles and smiled me. “You are amazing, do you know that?” he asked.
“I know now." I said and he chuckled. “I am hungry.” I said placing a hand on my stomach and he laughed, tugging me to the table.
We reached the table and he crashed his lips on mine. I was taken aback but I responded almost immediately. We both pulled away before things got too out of hand. He always stopped because he doesn't want to pressurize me. We have not slept together yet and he has waited for me to be ready very patiently. We were only fifteen when we started dating so I told him we will have to wait but now I am almost 17, I love him and I want this to happen, maybe soon.
We have been having arguments nowadays and sometimes I don't understand who is it at fault but all couples fight so I don't need to be very worried. We ate chatting about his trip, what he did and how I spend my times and how much he missed me. We were eating our dessert and suddenly it started raining and we had to pick up our plates and run inside. Did it have to rain right now?
Once we were inside, Nate set the plates on the kitchen counter and looked at the mess that was now in his backyard. Great, not only our date is ruined but there is a huge mess in his backyard which he would have to clean up before his parents come back. I am stupid, it been cloudy since afternoon, and I should have arranged everything inside. I just wanted this to be a perfect date.
His phone rang and he excused himself and went to the lounge. I sighed, pulled up a chair and sat down waiting for him to come back. I could hear him speaking something but it was not clear. I answer my phone in front of him, he used to do that but now for a few days he takes all his calls outside. I wonder what is it that he cant say in front of me, I want to ask but don't want to seem too nosy or possessive. He came back after a few minutes, he seemed angry.
“All ok?” I asked standing up and took his hand just to calm him. He sighed and just shrugged. Ok, maybe he doesn't want to talk about it. Another thing, I feel he hides some things for me but it can just be my illusion.
“Its ok you know that our date was ruined at least you took so many efforts for it that’s enough for me. I had lots of fun.” He said easily.
I nodded. “Me too but I just wanted it to be perfect.” I said. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer.
He kissed my lips softly. “This is perfect for me.” He said. I smiled and we settled on the couch watching a movie and eating our dessert.
I smiled remembering Nate’s words before. I moved closer to him and rested my head on his shoulder, snuggling closer to him. I love the way he always has nice things to say to me, its one of the traits I liked from the very beginning. On the other hand, Aiden, who is always trying to find new ways to annoy me and pulls silly pranks. The worst part is that Jake thinks its funny, we arguing and me falling prey to his traps. I don't care but then why does he keeping popping up in my mind? Its like he is present in my head. Nate kissed my hand and pulled me even closer to his side. This is what I wanted, a nice fun evening with my boyfriend Jake and Aiden free time. It’s a good thing Aiden won't be home almost whole summer. He is visiting his cousins who live in England and then a few weeks in Italy and Spain with his parents and Johnny. Two months without Aiden, how cool is that but I'll miss him a little bit, I guess; yeah probably not. I giggled to myself thinking about missing Aiden. Nate looked at me curiously, I just gave Nate a peck on his lips and sighed happily. This might be the best summer of my life.
