Chapter 5

1175 Words
Elara was tall, blonde, and perfect. Her makeup was always impeccable. Her posture showed strength and leadership, but she hadn’t given Elijah what Grace had offered three beautiful children. When she entered the room unannounced, she almost ruined everything. She felt it when she looked into Elijah’s eyes and saw the disappointment written on his face. They had been together for six years, and Elara could not give Elijah children. It frustrated her while also making her furious. But in her husband’s presence, she was loving and understanding. But when Elijah wasn’t around, she transformed into something different. “Sorry for interrupting the conversation,” she lowered her gaze, pretending to be embarrassed, “I got excited when I heard that Grace had come back and wanted to see her.” “Since when did you become so close to Grace to treat her?” “Since when did you decide to hide from me that you had children with her?” The furious look Elijah gave Elara should have scared her, but she didn’t back down. "Why did you assume that the children she mentioned are mine?” Elara widened her eyes at him. That question seemed like a perfect trap for Elijah to discover her secrets. “Then whose would they be?” she composed herself. “If they were children of some human, she wouldn’t come asking for your help, Elijah. That’s exactly what I would do if I were in her place.” She could call the alpha by his first name whenever they were alone. On other occasions, Elara always referred to him as Alpha Elijah. “But you don’t have children, do you?” Elara didn’t like hearing that, but she swallowed her dissatisfaction, pretending that Elijah’s words didn’t affect her. But the lack of an heir always bothered Elijah. She had always known that. They hadn’t talked about it for a long time because disagreements were constant. Elijah demanded that she give him children, but Elara didn’t know how. So every time the subject came up, she avoided it to avoid making things worse between them. For a long time, there was peace, and Elara believed that Elijah had given up on having children, until she discovered Grace’s whereabouts and learned that she had given birth to three boys, and that they were the alpha’s children. This information would ruin all Elara’s future plans to be a perfect Luna. Elijah couldn’t know about the whereabouts of those children, so Elara devised an almost perfect plan. She would kill Grace and the triplets so that Elijah would never discover this secret, but something went wrong. Grace was still alive, and the three boys were too. She smiled as she analyzed every feature of Elijah’s face to figure out what his next move would be. But he was almost indecipherable. There was a shell around Elijah where his feelings or intentions couldn’t be seen. “What do you intend to do now?” her voice came out. Elijah looked at her, suspicious of the calmness Elara exuded in such a complicated situation. “I’m going to help her find the boys,” he said, observing her, “and remove any doubt about it.” “And what if they’re not your children?” the question came out. Elara’s eyes were wide. “You yourself said that if they weren’t my children, she wouldn’t be here.” Elara watched him grab the car keys and prepare to leave. “In my absence, you’ll lead the pack. That’s an order, Elara.” Elara’s heart pounded in her chest as the door to the room closed. She felt like screaming. Her wolf was furious. Elijah would leave the pack to venture out in search of the lost children alongside his ex-mate. The plan hadn’t just failed, but it had also given Grace a new chance to have Elijah back. She couldn’t allow that to happen. After reflecting on it, Elara went straight home, avoiding the main streets of the city as much as possible in case she bumped into someone, especially Grace. She couldn’t bear to look into that woman’s eyes again and pretend to feel pity. Elara hated her. She wanted to see her dead, far from her path. Elara always considered Grace weak, miserable, and tasteless, incapable of holding a man by her side. It was like that when Elijah rejected her to be with Elara, and she believed she had won that battle until Grace came back, bringing the past and shattering all the future she had planned with Elijah. But she swore to herself, as she walked under the scorching sun, that she would drop Grace Rosse and that she would never get close to Elijah again. She entered the house in a desperate rush to speak to Derrick, who had been instructed to stay there until her return. When she found him sitting in the same place, she walked furiously towards him and looked into his eyes. “Why did that b**ch come back?” her heart stirred painfully as she snarled at her brother. “I’m sorry, Elara,” Derrick stood up with his hands stretched out in front, carefully looking at Elara. “You should have been more effective when you first kicked her out of the pack.” Elara closed her eyes, clenched her jaw, and fought to prevent her wolf from tearing apart her own brother. “You’re weak and submissive, Derrick.” “You need to calm down, Elara,” his words hung in the air, before a fierce growl escaped Elara. “It’s no use lamenting what went wrong anymore.” “Elijah is about to abandon the pack and go after the triplets, and you ask me to calm down?” “So, he knows the children are his?” she asked with widened eyes. “I should have killed that b**ch when I had the chance.” “Oh really? I’m surprised that you agree with me on something and also lament what went wrong.” “I’m sorry if I disappointed you,” Derrick gritted his yellowed teeth. “I can kill her right now.” “It’s too late,” her heavy breathing prevented her from controlling her own anger. “It’s risky. We need to come up with a distraction that will keep Grace away from Elijah without raising suspicion.” Derrick laughed incredulously, not fully understanding Elara’s intentions. What did she mean by that? “Time for Plan B,” she said with a malicious smile on her face. “But do things correctly this time.” “Plan B?” Derrick could hardly believe it. That idea always seemed ridiculous to him, but he had accepted it because he thought he wouldn’t have to execute it. “Are you sure about this?” “Just do as I ordered, Derrick,” as she struggled with her conflicting emotions, she looked at Derrick in desperation before adding, “Do it now, before it’s too late.”
