After taking a short detour to buy the largest blueberry cheesecake she could find, Louisa immediately got into her CRV to drive to Gabriel’s office, eager to get there before his 4 PM meeting ended. She feared that he would leave as soon as he was done for the day since they had earlier agreed to meet at Rajo’s. And that would ruin the surprise she had planned for him.
She was about to pull out of her parking space when her phone rang. She didn’t have her Bluetooth earpiece with her so she kept the engine idling while she answered her phone (a near mishap last year had awakened her to the dangers of talking on the phone and driving). She looked at the caller ID and smiled. It was Angelo.
