IT DIDN’T TAKE BUT a few minutes after the first howls were heard before Simon’s men reached David’s location. David, hoping to remain undetected, was still high in the pine tree frozen in place, hoping against hope that the new pack would not pick up on his location. He could easily see each of the wolves sniffing about 50 feet below him from his lofty perch, obviously looking for clues to his location.
