MEANWHILE, AS KAHN pursued David, Ryder arrived at Simon’s place. She slammed on her brakes and came to a sliding stop in the graveled pavement of his front yard. Within seconds Simon and his lieutenants were out to greet her and to make sure that she had not been followed.
“Are you sure you weren’t followed?” Simon asked right off the bat.
“No way, I know lots of shortcuts and took a few of them to get here,” she said. “They have no idea where I am.”
“Well... good then, that gives us plenty of time to plan what we do next,” Simon said.
“Exactly how many people are we talking about?” asked one of Simons lieutenants.
“So what happened to you? Why were they trying to kill you?” asked another.
