Astrid’s POV
The next morning I went to the palace training grounds and it was empty, the early morning mist curling around the stones like silver smoke. I stood in the center, heart racing, wolf humming beneath my skin. Today, I decided, I would test the power that had been stirring since my bond with Caspian.
“Are you sure?” my wolf asked, cautious. This is uncharted territory.
I nodded, fists clenched. “I have to know… what I am capable of.”
I closed my eyes, reaching inward, feeling the familiar pulse of our mate bond with Caspian in the back of my mind. It was steady, grounding, and reassuring. My wolf stirred, aligning with my heartbeat, ready to guide me.
Then I felt it, a flicker, soft and bright, like liquid light pooling inside me. I stretched my awareness toward it, letting the energy swirl, testing its edges. It responded, playful and wild, like a spirit awakening from a long slumber.
“Slowly.” Akira warned. “You cannot force it.”
I exhaled, letting the energy flow naturally. A strand of light lifted from the ground, hovering in the mist before dissipating like smoke. My eyes widened. “I did it…” I whispered.
Just then, Caspian stepped into the clearing, his presence grounding. “Astrid,” he said softly, amber eyes alight with curiosity and concern. “I felt your power… it’s stronger than anything I’ve sensed before. Are you alright?”
I turned to him, energy still rippling around me. “I… I think so. It’s like it’s alive. It responds to me… and my wolf. But it’s stronger than I expected.”
He approached slowly, careful not to startle the energy swirling between us. I had told him about my powers last night, we promised not to keep secrets and I didn’t want him to find out himself, I didn’t want him to feel like I didn’t trust him. “Then we learn together,” he said, voice steady. “I’ll help you channel it, guide it… but you must trust yourself. And me.”
“And me,” my wolf added, nudging my consciousness with warmth.
I closed my eyes again, letting Caspian’s presence and my wolf’s guidance center me. Slowly, the energy obeyed, glowing faintly around my hands. I experimented, lifting a small stone from the ground, holding it aloft with a touch of my fae magic. It floated gently, responding to my intent.
Caspian’s eyes softened as he observed. “Beautiful,” he whispered. “Controlled, precise. That’s how it must feel, playful, but not reckless.”
I smiled, heart pounding. “It’s… exhilarating. But I can feel it wanting more. Stronger.”
He reached for my hand, intertwining fingers with mine. “Then we train it. Together. You’re hybrid, Luna, part fae, part wolf, part mate. All of it is a gift. And I’ll help you wield it safely.”
I let the energy swirl around us, a subtle glow in the mist, feeling our wolves entwined, our hearts aligned, and the magic of my fae power responding to every thought, every breath.
For the first time, I realized the truth, my power was no longer locked, no longer dormant. It was alive, growing, and ready to be mastered.
And with Caspian, and my wolf by my side, I knew I could face whatever came next.
The stone dropped softly to the ground, and I opened my eyes, looking at him. “I’m ready,” I said, voice steady, heart full.
He smiled, drawing me close. “I know, babe. I’ve always known.”
And in the quiet morning mist, with my wolf, my mate the love of my life , and magic entwined, I felt unstoppable.
The next day, we gathered at the palace training grounds, it was alive with activity that morning. Younger wolves practiced formations, older wolves sparred under the watchful eyes of Caspian’s Gamma, Beta, and Delta. I stood beside him, feeling the familiar pulse of our mate bond beneath my skin, wolf and heart entwined, grounding me as I prepared to test my fae magic in a controlled way.
“Careful,“ my wolf murmured. The pack is nearby. They can feel your energy, even if they don’t understand it yet.
I nodded, closing my eyes for a moment. The energy within me hummed, eager and restless, like a tide pressing toward the shore. With a gentle breath, I let it ripple outward, subtle at first, barely perceptible, a shimmer in the morning mist, a faint hum along the ground.
Caspian noticed immediately, amber eyes narrowing with concentration. He reached for my hand, fingers brushing mine. “Steady,” he said. “Let them feel it, yes, but controlled. Guide it. Don’t force it.”
I opened my eyes, letting a soft glow extend from my hands. The youngest wolves paused mid-drill, blinking as a warm, comforting sensation washed over them. Even the older wolves felt it, a gentle pulse of reassurance, confidence, and alertness, though they didn’t know why.
It’s responding to you, my wolf whispered. To your bond. The pack feels your heart, your intent, even your magic.
I glanced at Caspian, who smiled, a mixture of pride and caution. “Good,” he said quietly. “They sense the power, but not the danger. You’re in control.”
As I experimented further, lifting small stones and guiding them lightly over the ground, I noticed subtle reactions, the air shimmered slightly, leaves quivered in their place, and some of the younger wolves’ movements became smoother, faster, more precise. My fae energy was amplifying what the pack already had, alertness, instinct, coordination, without even touching them directly.
It exhilarated me, but a flicker of unease passed through my mind. Why is it growing so fast? I wondered. My wolf hummed softly, acknowledging my concern. Because it was always inside you, hybrid nature waiting to awaken. The bond, the mate magic… it opened the door. But be careful. Others will notice eventually.
Caspian leaned close, sensing my thoughts. “I feel it too,” he said softly. “Stronger than ever, and yes… others will feel it too. But together, we can control it. Together, we can teach the pack and protect them.”
A shiver ran down my spine, not from fear, but from the thrill of untapped power. The young wolves continued their drills with newfound energy, and I realized that even in subtle ways, my magic could help protect, guide, and strengthen the pack.
But beneath the satisfaction, a quiet whisper of warning lingered. The power that had been locked inside me for so long, was growing fast. And with its growth, attention would come. Not all of it friendly.
I glanced at Caspian, heart steady with trust and love. “Then we prepare,” I murmured. “Together.”
He squeezed my hand, wolf and heart aligned with mine. “Always, Luna. We face everything together.”
And in the morning mist, as the pack trained and my fae power rippled quietly through the courtyard, I felt the first taste of what our future might hold, power, danger, and the unbreakable bond that would see us through it all.
