Chapter 24

1080 Words
Third person’s POV The path to her family’s estate wound through towering moonlit trees, each one humming with ancient magic. Easton felt that hum in his bones. No matter how many supernatural sights he had witnessed since entering Elara’s world, the presence of her family, the rulers of their lineage made his heart pound in a way nothing else could. Elara sensed it. She squeezed his hand. “They’re protective,” she whispered. “But they will see you the way I do.” He wasn’t so sure. The gates opened on their own, silver vines twisting aside like living serpents. Beyond them rose a grand stone fortress glowing with soft blue runes. Two guards wolves in humanoid form stood rigid as Elara approached. “Princess,” they greeted her, bowing. Easton blinked. Princess? Elara tensed. She had hoped he would learn that later. Inside, the air was warm and scented with moon lilies. Her family was already waiting in the great hall. Her father, tall and broad-shouldered, radiated authority without speaking. His emerald eyes flicked immediately to Easton, assessing him with centuries of instinct. Her mother stood beside him elegant, silver-haired, her power calmer but no less formidable. Elara stepped forward. “Mother. Father. This is Easton.” Silence. Easton bowed, hoping he did it right. “It’s an honor.” Her father circled him once, slow and deliberate. Easton’s muscles tightened, but he didn’t break eye contact. When the older man spoke, his voice was deep enough to shake the walls. “You are… human.” “Yes, sir.” Another long pause. Then her mother approached, softer but sharper in her insight. She touched Easton’s arm lightly, sensing his emotions, his fear, his love, his resolve. Her expression shifted. “He loves you,” she said to Elara, surprise threading her voice. “Truly.” Elara smiled. “Yes.” Her father exhaled. Not approval yet but acceptance. “Then he is welcome in this home.” Relief washed over Easton so strongly his knees nearly buckled. Elara slipped her arm around his waist, eyes glowing with pride. And for the first time, Easton realized he wasn’t just a visitor here. He was becoming part of their world. The moment Elara opened the door to her siblings’ wing, Easton barely had time to prepare himself before a blur of energy slammed into her. “Elara!” a young female voice squealed. Lyria, her younger sister wrapped Elara in a crushing hug, her silver-streaked hair bouncing behind her. Then Lyria froze when she noticed the tall human standing awkwardly in the doorway. “Oh.” Her eyes widened mischievously. “So this is him.” “Elara,” came a more controlled voice from the hallway. Her older brother, Caspian stepped into view tall, sharp jaw, wolf aura simmering beneath the surface. He crossed his arms and examined Easton like he was a suspicious document that needed verifying. Lyria, unlike her brother, had no patience for staring. “Hi!” she said brightly, grabbing Easton’s hand before he could react. “I’m Lyria, youngest, prettiest, and most annoying. You must be Easton.” He chuckled nervously. “That’s… quite an introduction.” “She leaves out ‘most dramatic,“ Caspian muttered. Lyria stuck her tongue out at him. Caspian finally approached. He didn’t offer his hand, he simply held Easton’s gaze. Testing him. Probing for weakness. “You’re human,” Caspian said flatly. “Yes,” Easton replied, steady but respectful. “And you think you can protect my sister?” Elara immediately stepped between them. “Brother. Please Don’t start.” But Easton lifted a hand gently. “It’s okay.” He looked Caspian in the eyes, voice firm. “I know I can’t fight like you. I can’t shift or sense danger the way your kind does. But I love her. And I’ll stand in front of anything that tries to harm her, even if it destroys me.” Silence. Lyria’s mouth dropped open. “Whoa… okay, that was kind of sweet.” Caspian’s jaw tightened… then slowly eased. He gave a short nod, it was small, but significant. “He means it,” Caspian said at last, glancing at Elara. “I can smell the truth.” Elara’s shoulders relaxed. Lyria stepped closer with a grin. “Well then, welcome to the madness! And don’t worry, if Caspian ever growls at you again, I’ll bite him.” “You will not, ”Caspian snapped. Easton laughed for the first time since arriving in the supernatural realm. He wanted to meet her other sibling but they were not around for now. In this room with Elara pressed to his side, Lyria buzzing around him, and Caspian pretending not to approve, he felt something he hadn’t expected. Belonging. And Elara saw it too, her heart warming as her siblings accepted the man she loved. They married in a quiet garden just outside the city, surrounded by soft lights and blooming white roses. Easton wore a tailored black suit while Elara wore a flowing cream gown that shimmered when she moved, as if moonlight followed her. No one there knew she wasn’t human. No one knew the groom was marrying a secret. They wanted to have a human wedding just like they first had one at Elara’s place. But when she walked down the aisle, eyes locked on his, nothing else mattered. Easton’s voice shook as he whispered his vows. “I choose you, in every world.” Elara’s eyes glowed faintly, the only hint of her true nature, but he held her hands without fear. Their kiss was gentle, sealing two worlds into one. Months later, Maya arrived on a stormy night. Elara’s contractions hit fast, her supernatural strength flickering uncontrollably as pain and instinct warred inside her. Easton stayed beside her the entire time, gripping her hand even when her claws nearly pierced his skin. When Maya finally cried out, the wind outside calmed instantly, as if the world itself exhaled. Tiny, warm, and impossibly bright-eyed, Maya blinked up at them with irises of pale gold edged in Easton’s soft brown. Her hair just like the color of Elara. A child of two realms, destined for more than either parent could imagine. Easton held her close, voice breaking. “She’s perfect.” Elara leaned against him, exhausted but glowing. “She’s ours.” And just like that, their family, impossible, extraordinary, and beautifully whole began.
