Chapter 5

The room was swallowed in shadow, candles dancing like dying spirits, burnt herbs and blood hung in the air the price whispered in ancient tongues for the power he craved. Kieran stood tall, golden fury eyes locked on the witch, energy surged around him, fusing with his body like it was his. “You're tempting more than you understand, Alpha” she hissed her voice dry and cracking like ancient parchment. “I don’t care,” Kieran replied coldly. “She’s still mine.” She let out a cruel, soft laugh but it's carried no warmth, only warning. “No, she isn’t. The bond was severed the moment she accepted another.” His jaw clenched. He knew that. But he also knew something else, Lilian’s faith in him had never fully disappeared. She had loved him once. And if there was even the smallest ember left… he would reignite it. “Do it.” The witch sighed, but lifted her hand, and she started speaking in a tongue no one would understand, the air crackled with ancient power glowing tones dancing above her and magic slithering forward like smoke wrapping around Kieran and fusing with the core of who he was. Very far away Lilian would feel the fake bond. Not real. Not natural. But just enough to stir doubt in her heart. A slow, satisfied smirk curled on Kieran’s lips. He knew what this meant. Very soon, he would be the most powerful alpha to ever exist. Because Lilian’s power wasn’t ordinary. “It was something older than time itself, untouched and pure, with an unpredictable strength.” She had been born with the blood of the forgotten ones, the lost line of wolves that had long since vanished from history. The kind whose gifts were rare, feared, and, above all, absolute. The elders had spoken of wolves like her in hushed whispers, those who carried the ability to rewrite the very laws of their kind. Lilian’s power wasn’t just strength or speed. It was creation and destruction. She could heal the broken. Or she could shatter the world if used wrongly. And she had no idea what was awakening inside her. Kieran’s fingers curled into fists as the magic settled into his veins. His body burned with the remnants of the spell, but it didn’t matter. The moment he reclaimed her, he wouldn’t just restore their bond. He would own her power. Control it. Bend it to his will. No force, no pack, no rival alpha would ever stand against him again. Let Elias think he had won. Let Lilian believe she was free. Sooner or later, she would feel it. The pull. The unshakable connection. And when the time was right… She would come back to him. Even if she didn’t want to. Because Lilian had the power to either save the world. Or burn it all down. And Kieran intended to make sure she did the latter. Lilian’s POV Something was wrong. I didn’t know how I knew, but the feeling had settled deep in my bones, in the pit of my stomach. “It pulled at me, invisible and relentless, a feeling I couldn't grasp, but couldn't ignore.” I jerked up from the bed, my heart hammering in my chest each breath unsteady as panic crept in. Why… Why did I feel this way? I pressed a hand to my chest, the confusion were swirling the deep inside, making it hard for me to think. This wasn’t real. It couldn’t be. The bond between me and Kieran was gone. It had to be. Why did I feel like the bond was still there? A soft groan yanked me from my thoughts, my focus instantly shifting to him. Elias shifted beside me, blinking up at me with sleepy eyes. “Lilian?” His voice was rough, still thick with sleep. I swallowed, offering a quick easy smile to mask the tension. “Sorry. Did I wake you?” His brows narrowed as he sat up, his expression hardening as he studied me closely “What’s wrong?” I hesitated. If I told him… how would he feel?. Or worse… would he think I still had feelings for Kieran? I shook my head. “It’s nothing.” Elias’s gaze sharpened. “Lilian.” I sighed, raking a hand through my hair, “ I just had a weird feeling you know like something's off.” His fingers brushed mine, a soft grounding touch, “what kind of feeling?”, he asked, his eye searching mine for answer. I hesitated, then whispered softly, like… like the bond is still there. The silence that followed was heavy. Then, Elias tensed. His entire body went rigid, his eyes darkening. “That’s not possible.” “I know.” I bit my lip. “But I feel it.” Elias didn’t move for a long moment. “Do you want him back?” The question was quiet. Dangerous. I sucked in a breath, shaking my head instantly. “No. Never.” He relaxed for a moment, but the tension that followed remained, thicker than before. “Forget about it, he muttered, his grip tightening as he pulled me closer," what you feel doesn't matter, you're mine and that's all that matters, his fingers tracing my cheek in a soft, tender caress. I swallowed nervously as he tilted my chin, his lips brushing lightly against mine, sending cold shivers through my spine. “Tell me, Lilian.” His voice was a whisper, dark and sweet. “Who do you belong to?” My heart pounded. “You,” I whispered. Elias didn’t hesitate. His lips crashed against mine, hot and demanding chasing away every doubt, his hands gripped my hips possessively, pulling me against him ensuring there was no distance between us. I gasped as he flipped me beneath him, his weight pressuring me into the bed, “say it again." he murmured, his breath warm and soft against my skin, a smile tugging at his lips. I shivered. “I belong to you.” His lips trailed down kisses down my neck, slow and deliberate, his lips grazed my skin right over the spot where the mark was. I froze. My breath hitched. Elias growled, low and possessive. “Then let me prove it.” And he did. He worshipped me with every touch, every kiss, every whispered promise. And when it was over, we lay tangled together, breathlessly I felt like exactly where I was meant to be. But even then…. even as I curled into Elias warmth, to feel safe for just a moment. The feeling didn’t leave. The bond. I could still feel it. And I had no idea why. And I'll get to the bottom of it, because I know that deep down that it can't be possible.
