CHAPTER FIVE (Hello, Moon Crepe!)

1298 Words
“She’s awake! Hurry now, ladies, and get her comfortable,” a woman who was about forty or fifty years old ordered. A train of maids rushed in and stood before McKenzie. She was abashed as she held the edge of the bed, wondering who they were and where she was. “What’s going on here? Who are you people?” She mumbled coherently, fluttering her lashes from one corner to the other as if it would give her answers. “Hello, my lady. My name is Maya, head of Lord’s Nikolai’s Castle maids. We are here to attend to your needs,” she said, and bowed as well as the others. McKenzie watched the drama unfold and suddenly let out a roaring laughter. “Stop it if it’s a joke. You see, I’m a very introverted person and I don’t know what Ava told you, but I can’t act a role even in a skit, to save my life,” she said with her hands placed on her tummy while the other hand ran through her hair. “What’s Ava doing right now?! She must be mad that I missed my shift at the hospital. She’s right to be mad though. I slept for almost 20 hours,” she mumbled, then faced the direction of the doorway. “Ava!!! I’m sorry, okay? I don’t know what’s going on or where you brought me, but I’m sorry. And you won’t believe the terrible nightmares I had,” she said, pulling the blanket to herself to fold it. Maya gestured to one of the maids who scurried over to her side, grabbed the blanket from her and folded it. Then she went back to where she was formerly standing. “Why did she just do that? Why are you bowing?” she asked, realizing that it was not a prank. “Who are you people? Where am I? Are you all joking with me? Or have I been kidn*pped?” She screamed, watching the maids. “I’ve not been ordered to provide you with any details regarding your arrival at Lord Nikolai’s Castle, but I can assure you that you’re safe here. Lord Nikolai will be here soon, but in the meantime, we have to make you look presentable to meet him,” Maya said, drawing close to help her change her clothes, while the others moved instantly to set up her dress, shoes and makeup. “Get your hands off me. Who the hell is Lord Nikolai or what not? I’ve not even heard that name before?” she yelled, pushing Maya away from her. “Stop right there, Baruch. She’s my woman and she stays!” Nikolai’s deep and angry voice echoed through the castle from the grand hall down to Kenzie’s chamber. She paused as she heard the thundering voice, moving slowly towards the door while Maya waited patiently to grab and drag her back into the room. “Your woman?! We do not wish to question your choices and decisions, but we cannot just accept a human as our Alpha’s Luna! It’s unacceptable and can ruin our pack. You need to reconsider this,” Keegan said. “There’s nothing to reconsider. I’ve watched her for a whole year. I knew she was my Luna the moment I laid eyes on her, and she would be my queen,” Nikolai roared once more, moving his eyes around the hall. The council grew noisy with murmurs from the chiefs. He turned his eyes swiftly towards Raven, then avoided her gaze. She was furious and boiling with rage, but she managed to keep her cool. Only a few female werewolves were allowed into the Lyconia Pack council of chiefs, and she got to be part of the lucky few. She bit her lips with her gaze fixated on Nikolai. He was the man of her dreams. The reason she had trained hard over the years was to be chosen as his Luna and be worthy of protecting their Pack and Moon Crepe side by side with him. Kenzie’s appearance was a stab in her heart. “How did you ever find a human Luna, if I may ask?” Declan probed, caressing his neatly cut pointed beard. “A few men across the barrier are growing curious. They’ve been checking out the woods despite its ban. The only way to ensure that we maintain the barrier is to keep those prying eyes away. I’ve been doing so for months with Ryder. Regarding how I fell in love with a human, I owe you no explanation,” he replied. “Having a human Luna would weaken your reign as the Alpha of our Pack. If the Alphas from the Lyca and Lycica Pack discover that you’ve mated with a human, we might start losing our place as a part of Moon Crêpe,” Keegan said with a voice that was barely audible. “You all have to calm down. You’ve got nothing to be afraid of. She’s like everyone here. She’s a werewolf,” he revealed, standing up from his crystal-made throne. His response led to whispers from every corner of the room. While he watched their reactions, a maid rushed in with a message which was passed to him by Ryder who had been standing below his throne. “This meeting is adjourned. Wrap things up,” he ordered, gesturing to Ryder. Then he strutted out of the grand hall towards McKenzie’s chamber. “So you’re saying that I’m in a place called Moon Crepe, and it’s not Los Angeles, right?” she asked, watching Maya and the maids’ faces. “My goodness! I’ve got to call Ava. I need to get out of here,” she said, rushing to grab her bag. She picked up her phone and dialed Ava’s contact number. “What! What!! Is this the jungle or something? No reception?!” she screamed, horror painted all over her face. “You shouldn’t bother. We don’t use that here. It won’t work,” Nikolai said, marching into the room while his guards stood by the door. “Lord Nikolai,” Maya and the maids mumbled, bowing and revering him. He raised his hand and the maids exited the room in seconds. “It’s you! You’re the weird dude that had a one-night stand with me then turned into a beast. I don’t know how I ever got involved with a monster like you,” she exclaimed, taking a few steps backwards while he moved towards her. “I don’t want to hurt you, and I’m not a monster or a beast. You are my woman, and it’s only fair that you stay wherever I am,” he replied with a straight and expressionless face. “Really? So you loved me so much to have kidn*pped me and forced me into your home without bothering to ask me if I wanted you,” she said, watching him with disdain while he still maintained his face and composure. “I know you won’t reason with me, but honestly, you don’t have a choice. This is the best thing for you. To keep you safe,” he said, placing both hands into the side pockets of his coat. “To keep me safe? You’re molesting me. You think I’m one of those wannabe girls who would fall for your rich, silly schemes. I didn’t fall for that show that you put on. I know your type. You’re an obsessed stalker who thinks he can have his way, but I won’t let you. If you know what’s good for you, take me back home, or I’ll call the police in whatever way possible,” Kenzie threatened, her eyes blazing with anger, but Nikolai simply smiled then roared with laughter.
