Twenty One

It was like she had Adan on her radar because Zilpah barged into the sitting room like she had every right to be here. Considering her parents owned the house, I guess she was part owner even if she was adopted. “Hello Adan!” Zilpah said looking stunning in a turquoise dress which flowed down to her feet with a slit running up on one side. Her breasts were pushed up, no doubt for Adan’s pleasure and I really didn’t like it. A strange burning began in my center and expanded through my veins until I was actually visualizing different ways to kill her. “You look great!” “Zilpah,” Adan said without looking at her. I knew I shouldn’t feel this way but I was glad he was acting so nonchalant towards her. I wanted her to go away so we could be at peace, but I knew she wouldn’t go anywhere. “You know it’s disrespectful to not look the person in the eye when addressing them,” she said and I couldn’t believe she was ignoring me. I knew I was a slave but I wasn’t invisible. And Adan brought me here to prove a point to her but it looked like she had no intention to actually see that point. “And it’s rude to ignore people when they’re right in front of you,” he responded without looking at her once again. “I brought Angel with me.” That’s when her eyes flickered to me and I flashed her a smile but she looked away before I could wave at her. Well at least she looked at me. That was more than what she was giving me before Adan mentioned me. “I can see that,” she said. “Good.” Adan stood up and pulled me up as well. “Make sure you do see her, because pretty soon she’ll be all you’ll see.” I had no idea what he meant by that but I really liked the sound of it. And I loved it even more when Zilpah’s face darkened at his words and she took a step back. I really wanted to mark my territory by wrapping my hands around Adan’s arm but considering I was just a slave I held back. I didn’t know why but I didn’t want her to have Adan. This was one man I’d been fantasizing about for the longest time and I didn’t want to give him up. I didn’t understand why he cared about me so much but he did and I didn’t want him to care about anyone else, let alone love them. “I know she’s your slave and she’ll always be. I don’t have a problem with her,” she said and I understood exactly what she was talking about. She meant she had no problem with me as long as Adan chose to be with her, and that made me want to slap her. “You better not,” Adan said, his voice cold but Zilpah seemed oblivious to it. “Come on. Dinner should be ready by now.” Taking a hold of my hand Adan led me out of the sitting room, leaving Zilpah no choice but to follow behind. I did my best not to burst into a happy dance because it was not the time nor place to gloat, but as soon as we got home I was going to give Adan a hard kiss to show him how grateful I was that he was so blatantly choosing me over his sister who just couldn’t stop obsessing over him. Why would it take for her to finally get the message, I didn’t know, but I was glad Adan had some idea. I took in more mirrors the deeper we ventured into the house and glanced back at Zilpah to see her eyes focused on us. When she caught my eyes she gave me a pointed glare before glancing at the mirrors around us. We took a turn and then another before Adan stopped in front of a door and pushed it open to reveal a grand dining room. He entered without wasting a second and pulled me along with him. “Aren’t you going to wait for your Dad?” I asked as he pulled out a chair for me and forced me to sit down. The gesture was completely unexpected because I was his slave and he was presenting me as such. As my Master I was the one who was supposed to pull out a chair for him and make sure he was comfortable. “He’ll come when he wants to. I’m sure he’s having a long and boring discussion with my Mom over something trivial. He already knows you’re here so we really have nothing to worry about,” he replied and dropped a kiss on my cheek, surprising me yet again because his sister was right here with us. He really was laying it on thick when it came to proving to her that he didn’t want her. I would complain if I had a problem with it but I liked it. I wanted Zilpah to stay away from Adan. She wasn’t right for him. And you are? I didn’t know what Adan planned to do with me now that he’d chosen me as his slave for the rest of my life, but I knew I wasn’t okay with him marrying another woman. I may not be worthy of being his wife but that didn’t mean I’d be okay if he chose another. Whatever my status was in his life, I wanted to be the only woman for him. “You can sit down as well, Zilpah,” Adan said as he took a seat beside me. “Aren’t you going to pull out a chair for your only sister?” She asked and I didn’t miss the disdain in her voice. “My sister is more than capable of pulling out her own chair,” he replied and flashed her a calm smile. “Your slave isn’t an invalid as far as I can tell,” she shot back. “No, but I do enjoy spoiling her,” he said and I could hear the sincerity in his voice which shocked me to my core. I dared at a glance at Zilpah and literally saw death in her eyes. She wanted to kill me and she had no intention of hiding it. “Spoiling your slaves never has never turned out well,” she argued as she pulled out a chair across from me and sat down. I really wanted Adan’s parents to come and diffuse the tension piling higher than the books I had at my old home. “Then I guess it’s good that I intend to do more than just spoil her,” he replied, not appearing to be affected by he words. How the hell did he do it? She was clearly provoking him and he was being so nonchalant. Was it an act or did he really not care?” Before Zilpah, could respond, the dining room was filled with more voices as Adan’s parents entered. I sucked in a breath when I noticed that Adan’s resemblance to his Father was so strong it felt unreal. Even the way Mr. Diamandis carried himself was like Adan and I could clearly see that he in another twenty or thirty years Adan would look like his Dad. Mr. Diamandis’ eyes shot to me and I instantly dropped my gaze to the glass tabletop as he took his seat at the head of the table and his wife sat adjacent to him. They proceeded to put food on their plate which was brought by the staff the moment they entered. “Adan, how’s everything?” His Father asked while I watched Zilpah filling her plate. “You said you had something you want to discuss.” “I already discussed it with you,” Adan said. “So you’ve thought it through like we discussed?” Mr. Diamandis said and my Master nodded. “I wouldn’t have brought it up if I wasn’t sure about it,” Adan answered. “I think you’re doing the right thing,” Adan’s Mother spoke up. “Your cousins Aston and Mack did the same thing.” “Yes and I have been thinking about this for a long time,” Adan responded My eyes covertly darted between the three of them and when I glanced at Zilpah I was surprised to see the confusion in her eyes mirror mine. So even she had no idea what Adan planned to do. That was good because I couldn’t tolerate her smug expressions anymore. “Don’t worry, son. At the end of the day it’s your happiness which matters,” Mr. Diamandis said. “When are you planning to do it?” “I think we can have dinner and then do it. I’m thinking… after dessert?” He said and his Mother nodded. “Perfect!” She smiled and I wished somebody would have mercy upon me and tell me what the hell my Master was planning to do. This cryptic conversation was making my head spin and I didn’t like it. If Adan brought me here, then I deserved to know why. I knew I had no right to expect such things but I couldn’t help myself. You’re a slave. You need to act like one. I knew that but for the life of me I couldn’t adopt that role. I blamed Adan because he let me get away with everything. I had yet to be punished for my insolence. So if I was acting like I had more right over him than he did over me, then it was all his fault. And I loved him for it. Perhaps I should do something to show him that I appreciated that he was a good Master? He made you breakup with Wesley. How can you forget that? The thought of Wesley made me suck in a breath and I was once again reminded of how he yanked me out of the life I knew and forced me into the life he wanted for me. I couldn’t forget that. If it weren't for him I would’ve been happy with Wesley. How do you know that for sure? I didn’t expect my own inner voice to turn against me, when it just instigated me against the man I was surely falling for. But I didn’t have an answer for it. My inner voice was right; I didn’t know if I would’ve been happy with Wesley. We’d barely started going out when Adan told me to breakup with him. “Angel, why aren't you eating?” Adan asked in a soft whisper. I wasn’t sure if he intended for the others to hear but I was pretty sure they all did. I glanced at my plate and realized it was full. Adan filled it for me with all sorts of things which made my mouth water, but I wasn’t aware of when he did it. “So—sorry,” I muttered and picked up the fork and the knife. Normally I wouldn’t have apologized but seeing as I was sitting in front of his parents and representing him, I had to be respectful. Just because he let me get away with certain things didn’t mean I could forget my place. I started eating the dumplings which he placed on the side of my plate and did my best not to moan at the heavily flavors exploding in my mouth with every bite. “I take it you like the food?” He asked with a smile and I couldn’t help but return the smile with one of my own as I nodded. “Yes. Thank you for this,” I said to him in a soft voice. I really didn’t want anyone to hear what I said to him. “Good. I want you to eat everything on the plate. I’ll put more once you finish,” he said. “You don’t have to do that. This is more than enough,” I told him, noticing the way Zilpah’s eyes refused to leave us. “I know how hungry you are,” Adan stated and then brought his lips close to my ear. “Trust me. You’re going to need your strength for what I’m about to do.” His words had dread slithering down my back. I had no idea what he was going to do and I wasn’t sure if I was ready. The only reason I hadn’t run away was because he was planning to tell his adopted sister to back off. My territorial ass wanted him to put her in her place. I finished everything on my plate in under twenty minutes and just like he said, Adan refilled my plate with some of the items and ordered me eat it all. I didn’t know how, but he knew my metabolism better than I did because I finished the second helping just as the staff entered the dining room with dessert. One of the maids placed a glass bowl filled with ice cream and brownie chunks in front of me before walking away and I looked at everyone to see that they’d gotten the same dessert. How could I feel and act like a slave when Adan made sure I was treated equally? As soon as I picked up my spoon to take a bite, Adan stood up, forcing me to drop my attention from the decadent dessert and onto him. “I have been waiting for this moment for as long as I can remember,” Adan said and pulled me up so I was standing beside him. “And honestly I’m done waiting.” As usual I had no idea what he was talking about until I saw the ring he pulled out of the pocket of his slacks. My eyes widened at the biggest red diamond encrusted in the platinum band with tiny diamonds covering it. However, my jaw really hit the floor when my Master grabbed my hand and in front of his entire family, slipping the ring on my finger.
